It's about betting on yourself and if you are willing to risk the initial cost. Plus, if you have passion and a purpose behind your book than you should bet on yourself. If you don't than the publisher will receive a tremdous amount of money when your passion becomes a movement. In the end of the day if you do sign with a publisher and your book fails then your career as a author is in turmoil. In the end of the day it's always best to follow tour passion, bet on yourself, and not sign a publisher. This way you can earn more to invest back within yourself and movement to affect more lives in a positive light.

Guess I'm one of the "don't get it". I did pay to publish but don't know how I did. My publisher is in jail and the company closed. I'm now looking into self publishing. It sounds like if I get an advance, it's paid back as books sell then if book sales die, it might be a win-win if there are at least enough sales to cover the advance. If the book dies, I have the advance but little hope of "the next book", so I'm screwed and the publishers screwed. Guess I have to go with self publishing as my destiny is mine.

I thought this was good information. It opened my eyes to some of the differences in getting a book published, especially around the money-making prospects of having a published book. That said, IMHO getting a book published (chosen) by a publisher isn't only about the money you will make from it, but it is also about the prestige of having your book selected by the establishment.

I'm at the very beginning stage of writing my book, The Author Incubator has given me some really valuable information that I didn't know about book publishing, which seems like a very overwhelming and confusing industry with many hidden secrets to uncover.

Honestly, I had an idea of what she was speaking about. Of course, why would anyone give you something in advance...without the prospect of getting even more or breaking even with the advance that they are giving you actually your own profits (money)? I am going the self-publishing avenue (Amazon, etc.) to cut cost and to regroup my expenses and continue to write more books.
