I would strongly advise against buying this food. Over the past 3 years the quality has significantly gone down and the packs are smaller and smaller. I've contacted customer service and they refuse to acknowledge the issue. For the price they charge, I'm not sure how they get away with this.

I would recommend against the Farmer's Dog for no other reason than a large amount of conflicting information about whether the product is "good", predatory marketing practices, and a misrepresentation of their nutritional certifications. We recently underwent a health scare with our older dog, and after being pelted with ads, we figured "why not? what kind of pet owner wouldn't want to feed their dog fresh food?". We got a trial, our dog loved it, but she was starving after the first few rounds. We looked around online and found others had similar issues, which led to us investigating their portioning by breed/weight, and seeing how little actual data was being shared with us. What made our Pom diet different than the recipe sent for a working dog? We then fell down a rabbit hole of people sharing accounts of long-term health problems that only appeared after switching diets for a period of time long enough to eliminate adjustment periods. Ends up we're not alone. We found that FD did not have the same certifications that Purina and other vet-recommended foods do, which is crucial, as this is what makes the food ideal for pets of various breeds. I don't know how FD does it, but it appears to be a one-size-fits-all brand. Our vet (and a few others) were totally unfamiliar with the brand, and advised against it. We were also presented with a slew of misinformation around alleged pancreatitis tied to long-term usage of the Farmer's Dog. The FD site has a section on this and does not address allegations beyond pancreatitis having multiple contributing factors, which while true, doesn't change the fact that there is enough correlation between diagnoses to make me extremely skeptical of the product. I don't care at this point if it does or not, but I'm extremely offput by the dismissive responsiveness from FD. Stop spending time/resources on why your product isn't responsible for the disease, and start working to get actual certifications for your food, starting with WSAVA. You are not a bad pet owner for giving your dog processed food if the processed food is vet-approved and vetted by the various regulating bodies to make sure you are not hurting your dog. Don't fall prey to advertising.

We have received bad food that sickened our dogs. Farmers Dog is all about negating their responsibility and not respecting feedback or complaints. Expensive food that is not reliable at all and not worth the risk to the pets.

After many expensive vet bills and research we discovered that all of our dogs problems were due to malnourishment from this food. He is 12yrs old and we discovered that this food only provides half of the needed protein for his diet. It took about a year until he was having really bad skin problems and lethargy and weight loss. Once we changed the food the food and he was receiving enough protein then he perked right up. Their customer service tried helping by cutting out certain types of food, thinking it was allergies. I told them the problem once we found out but they didn't seem to be concerned or knowledgeable that this was the problem. We found many other cases of this issue with pet owners who have their older dogs on this program. They should know this and change the recipe for older dogs.

I have been feeding my dog off the shelf dog food all her life, she is going on 17 now. Still jumps between the couch. Sorry to say, some dogs live for a long time, some don't.

I started my dog with Farmers Dog in June of 2024. My dog was diagnosed with cancer in Feb 2024. I wanted to find a more healthy diet for him. Today I took my Dog to the Vet and they were very concerned with his rapid weight loss over the last few months and the shape his coat was in (not due to his current illness). I told the vet we had switched to the Farmers Dog. My vet explained that my dog being normally 80+- pounds would need roughly 1700 calories a day to maintain his current healthy weight. All this information was given to the farmers dog so they could create a meal plan specifically designed for my dog. When I contacted The Farmers Dog to verify how many calories my wouldn't need as many calories. Clearly the science behind this theory is lacking considering regardless of "nutrition" all animals still need a specific number of calories just to maintain a normal life. Then they said he was on a "trail" meal plan and could be adjusted. The Famers dog never once notified or suggest my dog was on a "trial" meal plan, the suggestion of that is just Ludacris. It honestly just sounded like a lie. Why would the company not inform you when you sign up of this "trail" plan. Tons of peer reviewed research exist on the caloric intake of dogs. It makes zero sense to take a normal caloric intake and reduce that in half without any explanation other than they are cutting corners by using less food and charging as if they were not. As they advertise/guarantee I expected to receive an adequate amount of food for my dog according to the price I paid. This false advertisement and shady business practices are appalling. How many dogs under the care of this company are starving right now? If this was done to humans it would be brought to light in an instant.

I have been feeding my dog, the farmers dog food for several months now. The first time I tried to feed my Maltese the farmers dog she did not like it. We ended up moving states and the food that I was feeding her was not easy to get at the pet store that we lived near so I thought to try her on farmers dog again, she ended up loving it and we have been feeding it the beginning of the year 2024 I decided to give boxes to family members for them to try. One of my family members has several. After both family members signed up for the trial free boxes that I sent them. The farmers dog all of a sudden sent me a email stating that I had several accounts and several animals they canceled the trial boxes that I sent to my family members. I think that is a little bit deceitful if you’re telling someone that they are able to gift free boxes to friends and family then when you do so they all of a sudden act like you have done something wrong. Along with the cancel of the trial boxes the farmers dog is also deceitful when it comes to the amount that they’re saying, the animals should eat, 1/ fourth of a cup of food is not enough food for a 5 pound animal therefore they’re being deceitful when they’re saying the cost that it is to feed your animal per day. The last order I received from them was $88 and I received five things of food , I’m very disappointed in the way that they handled this whole situation and I do believe that they are being a little dishonest when it comes to the cost to feed animals
