“I own a mini golf business in Hawaii. We sell Texas BBQ as well. I have a large smoker. Can smoke up to 14 briskets or 28 pork butts or 14 pork bellies. I use 3 fireboard 2s each time I smoke. I use 3 ambient probes to monitor smoker temperature. Then I use up to 14 comeptition temperature probes to monitor meat temperature. The competition probes are so much easier to insert into the meat. I love them. I throw away the default probes that come with the fireboard 2, I dont use them.
I have been using the fireboard 2 for years. It was a game changer for me. With the ability to monitor the smoker with the firebard app I am no longer tied to being near the smoke to monitor the temperature of the smoker and the meats. I can go take care of other things and keep an eye on the smoker from anywhere. Its pricey, but for me, well worth the price. Its a great product. You wont find better.
I have tried lots of other temp probe products that cost much less. When you try the fireboard 2, you won't every look back. :-)
Recently started serving sausage. Bought my 4th fireboard to use when cooking up the sausage to prep for serving. Bought a 5th one to have at home to use on the little smoker I have at home, monitor temp when cooking sausage, and even when grilling steaks at home.”
“The Fireboard 2 and fan took a bit of getting used to. I need to manually get close to target temperature before activating it or else it severely overshoots. But all well now. Just got a Pulse, used it once, and I think placing the probe tip exactly where needed is crucial.”
“It’s been okay. I installed this in a Masterbuilt 800 after their controller failed. So far, for two months now, it has been a real struggle to keep the temp steady. It has a new ambient temp probe I just bought after the other one broke immediately. The temp swings wildly up and down and I have tried different PID settings. So far I would not recommend this product.”
