This is padded - but only slightly. I can fit a 30.5 x 22.5 old ipad in it AND a 11 inch macbook air at the same time.
Overall it S]seems protective, but I wouldn't want to drop test onto concrete.
Build and looks are both great and it will fold over to half size.
