Bought to dress up my restoration of a 1947 Stanley #4 Type 18 with it's extra special and unique to that year depth wheel with diagonal gnurling. As you would expect from the company that brings aerospace quality engineering to woodworking the A2 blade with just a little stropping cuts like a banshee; the extra thickness makes freehanding it a breeze. The cap iron fits so tight absolutely no light can be seen between cap and blade. I was prepared to file the mouth a bit to accommodate all the extra thickness but that proved unnecessary as the combo leaves the perfect narrow mouth opening I prefer for smoothing hardwood.
