If you are thinking about making a shooting board for shooting 90°, you might think, "I'll just tack a strip of wood to the outer edge of the base to make a track for my plane." You'd be just fine doing that. A little wax and you're all set.
That being said, this is a really nice track. I bought the 24" version and it makes a sweet-looking and slick-running shooting board. The kit includes strips of low-friction tape, which is a really nice product and which takes the performance of this track to the next level.
