I had never been on a cruise. I was excited about exploring the Galapagos but didn't know how a cruise would make it all possible. Pre-trip the Quasar staff made the logistics very easy even with the changing Covid situation and unrest in Ecuador.
Meeting the guides and taking the panga ride out to the Evolution started the adventure. Hadn’t been on a panga for decades. Boarding the Evolution and meeting the crew made me feel like we were in good hands.
Seeing our staterooms for the first time was reassuring that we had made the right choice and would have a comfortable home on board.
Very good first impressions.
As we discovered the daily program and then took part in them, the Evolution offered a wonderful platform. The warm wood decks, classic style, hot tub for after chilling water adventures, top deck bar and gathering area. And when it wasn’t so warm outside the indoor lounge and dining area were welcoming and cozy. The expresso machine and candy bowl kept everyone going.
The staff did a wonderful job, both those who were visible and those who worked behind the scenes. Out staterooms were kept clean and it was a pleasant surprise to see a new towel sculpture each day.
Caesar the bartender and who helped at meal times became a friend.
Steve the head of the hotel ran operations very well and was there to serve us meals each day. He made great omelets too.
I got assistance from Dr. Natalie who was very caring and attentive.
The captain ran the ship very well and did his best to minimize the sounds of navigation while guests were sleeping. It was nice to be invited to the bridge to experience the crossing of the equator.
The chef and kitchen staff prepared wonderful meals and fresh bread each day. I appreciated a fish option each day instead of meat.
The pangas were key to accessing all off-board activities and the crew made these rides secure and fun. Getting on and off the pangas was probably the most dangerous part of the trip. I appreciate the staff offering helping hands.
The engineer kept everything running smoothly.
I appreciated the steps taken on the Evolution to be more ecological. Separating waste and recycling, having a reusable water container for daily activities, eco-friendly soaps and shampoo.
I’m not sure if this review is supposed to include the naturalist guides, but Alex Hernan and Adriana were great.
I will recommend Quasar and the Evolution to my friends. I look forward to coming back in doing the other itinerary and possibly seeing the new yacht.
