This hair dye was much better than I had expected. It does take time but it's worth it.

Covered all my grey, the result was a shiny, luscious and rich dark brown colour, the smell is not at all unpleasant. I added a tablespoon of molasses to the final mix which made it creamy, smooth and really easy to apply. Only left it on for 2.5 hours as I had to dash somewhere so the recommended 4 hours might have made it darker, I'll find out next time!

After being hospitalised last time I coloured with chemical dye, I have been colouring with henna for over 25 years. For the last eight years I've been using a very expensive henna from Germany, but was told to try Desert Shadow and now I refuse to buy anything else! Top quality henna, reliable colour results, greys covered and forever being stopped by admirers in the shops or street to be asked what hair colour I use! Mix with chamomile tea and add 2 tblspns of molasses to mix and your hair and scalp will be beautifully nourished too.

I started developing an allergy to PPD in conventional hair dye...an itchy rash would surface along my hairline after my routine trip to the hairdresser to cover my greys. It was becoming worse with each visit so I realised I would have to find a long term solution. After googling frantically, (I discovered 'natural' is a much maligned word in the world of beauty)...I finally stumbled upon Flora and Fauna. I was apprehensive about applying dye at home as I prefer to leave this sort of thing to the professionals. If I didn't have short hair, I don't think I'd be brave enough. The process required some planning before going ahead as detailed in the instruction booklet. My application was made extra clumsy as it was 12 degrees in Melbourne and the dye kept thickening due to the cold...it was like applying chunky green mud to your head! This despite the heater being turned up to 25 degrees...next time I might try adding olive oil perhaps to make it runnier...what do you think F&F? Wait...did I say next time?? The answer is a resounding yes...despite the smell and wearing a beanie over my plastic wrapped head to keep it warm for four hours...I really like the colour and there were absolutely no side effects...such a relief! Chocolate Shadow has definitely surpassed my expectations...it's a lovely shade and lasting rather well up to 3 weeks now. The grey hair has a reddish tinge as it gradually starts to show; a subtle lighter colour...using the Desert Shadow colour range, I can visualise how a transition to a gradually greying style in future might even be possible...amazing!
