“Feature Rich with an extremely clear display. Easy to transfer my existing setup from the old Garmin 1000.
Had to change as the battery died in the Edge 1000 after 10 years.
Very good integration with Garmin Connect on PC and iPhone using either wifi or bluetooth.”
“Brilliant screeen display - best ever. But:
(i) you'll need new Garmin mounts (one supplied) for handlebars as the 1050 is just too big lengthwise for my ones that worked with 1030
(ii) The 1050 won't do "turn by turn" on route files downloaded from Ridewithgps via Garmin Connect- aparrently a known issue
(iii) 1050 does connect to the laptop to charge or access Garmin Express, but no icon appears on a MAC (because the 1050 defaults to MAC unfriendly MTP rather than mass storage), so one can't upload turn by turn route files directly (which was suggested as a workaround).
As a Mac user, I would not recommend buying one unitl Garmin fixes (ii) and (iii).”
“Have upgraded to the Edge 1050 after using a 1030+. Price is quite high but seems to be worthwhile so far. There is more information available on screen and there are added features. There are a lot of features that I do not use but the speed of the devices and the brighter screen is worth the upgrade.”
“I have Edge 1000, 1030 and now the Edge 1050 which is a very large improvement.
I am very happy with it and certainly hope that THERE IS A BETTER QUALITY BATTERY IN THE EDGE 1050 THAN WHAT WAS IN THE 1000 AND 1030 AS BOTH THEIR LITHIUM BATTERIES PUFFED UP AND BLEW THE FRONT COVER OFF THE CASE ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION.
The 1000, 1030 are still in working condition having their batteries replaced every time they failed during riding.
The 1050 is a good job, than you for a much improved unit.
Could have supplied (in the box with it) a USB stick with the complete user manual.
