“I was so excited about these pants, but after washing them, they shrank—I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t even get a chance to wear them once. I order from American Tall quite often, and this is the first time I’ve been so disappointed.”

“I absolutely loved these pants and how they fit, they became my absolute favorite pair of pants. Then I washed them and hung to air dry and they had shrunk to the point now they are like weird disproportioned leggings and I can’t wear them. I’ve considered buying another pair and hand washing only, but don’t want to spend the money again especially if they’re just gonna shrink if I do one thing wrong. I tried to get them back to shape, but no luck. I was heartbroken and felt like such a waste of money. I had bought another pair of pants in the same order too and after the first wash it got these weird spots all over like it lost it’s color in places. Overall, American Tall makes great fitting pants for tall people but whatever fabric they use doesn’t last and has given me the worst time with literally one wash and being ruined even when following wash instructions. It’s extremely disappointing as tall pants can be hard to find and I feel like I wasted money on more expensive pants that I thought would be better quality.”

“These pants fit very well when I tried them on. I washed them in cold water on gentle and hung dried them and they still shrunk to almost HALF the size!! I don’t think I can wear them they are so tight, when they are supposed to be wide leg. Very disappointed”

“These pants were nice until they were washed, according to the instructions. Once washed, the fabric completely shrunk up like an accordion, except for the top area which has a lining. I sent feedback to customer service and they told me that is 'normal' for the fabric and light ironing should return them "close to the original" shape. That is unacceptable. I am thoroughly unsatisfied not only with these pants, but with the response from customer service. I am seeing many similar reviews here - perhaps its time to retire these pants? DO NOT BUY.”

“Same issue that others have had with the shrinkage after washing. I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing. They were great the time I wore them before washing, but now fit more like leggings! I would recommend that American Tall remove them from their site, because they are such a disappointment compared to the quality of other American Tall products.”

“The only reason I am giving a 2 instead of a 1 is because when you wear them before washing they are AMAZING! However washing them, even when following the care instructions, leads to some very laughable looking pants. I literally called my best friend and we were crying laughing at how they came out.....the length did not shrink, but the crepe like material shrivels up making them extremely tight on all parts of your legs until you get to the bottom where they flare out. Like everyone else has said, having spent a good amount of money on them, it's super disappointing.
Now for some solutions because I was determined to make these pants continue to work (even though you shouldn't have to work this hard for pants lol). I rewashed them in cold water to get them wet again, after taking them out of the washer, I stretched them out until my arms hurt. I then two of the three hanging bags on a hamper I have off and scrunched the legs of the pants up on the metal piece that holds the hamper. This created a hold for keeping the pants WIDE as they dried. After almost dried, I then stretched them out by hand again and laid them flat to dry the rest of the way. They were still a little bit tighter in the butt than before I washed them, but stretched out throughout the day.
Long story short, if you get these be prepared to try to wear them as much as humanly possible before washing them. Then be prepared to work really hard after they come out of the wash. May even try hand washing next time. I was determined to get my money's worth out of these though.”

“Upon opening, I was initially thrilled with these pants. I got an extra tall as I typically wear a 36” inseam. They were much too long for me so I took them to be tailored. With one look, my seamstress said “those will draw up, you should wash them before I hem them”. I took the pants home (with not alterations made), washed them on delicate with cold water (as indicated on the label), and they came out of the wash so TERRIBLY MISSHAPEN that if I hadn’t spent so much money on them, it’d be comical. I have laid them out to air dry but I am not very optimistic. I didn’t even get the opportunity to wear them! As a customer that has made several purchases from American Tall, I insist you beware of buying these pants!”
