“Bought for a father's-and-son's 6.8 project (I get the NiB BCG, he gets the fluted barrel). For $109 (and even cheaper sometimes!) you get a nickel boron BCG WITH a lifetime warranty! Monmouth usually has THE BEST prices on these and Toolcraft quite simply makes one of the best BCGs on the planet! I've got 5 or 6 of these for different builds/calibers and plan to eventually replace all my builds with these. Haven't had a poorly staked one yet, or one that failed to fit specs or perform.
No flashy logos, but who cares? Ain't no one to impress in your rifle's chamber! Also no ultra light models either, so probably not the best of you're counting ounces (I can't categorically deny they don't exist, I've just never seen one yet).
Buy the NiB if available or the melonite one of it's not. I did a bunch of night shooting testing various muzzle devices and completely forgot to lube it--brand new melonite BCG, straight out of the plastic and into the gun. After about 500 rounds it started to FTE occasionally and was pissing me off. After I woke up the next AM it hit me: I'd forgotten to strip and clean and lube the sucker!
I don't recommend that at all, but I was sold on melonite after that! NiB is even more ridiculously slick than melonite! I DID run a few hundred rounds through a gun with a new NiB BCG just to see how it would perform. The answer: flawlessly. Not only that, but at the end of the day, I just wiped it all clean with a dry rag. Spick and span! Smoothest running lowest maintenance BCGs around and available here for a song! I'll never buy another phosphate BCG again!
Buy these and all the other parts you need now before prices inevitably rise. At this price, you can afford a few spares in the parts bin too!
These are seriously one of the best bargain gems in the AR parts world. If you're building a new gun or looking to replace it upgrade your BCG, I can't understand the desire our need to pay $30-$150 more for something that may have been made by Toolcraft to begin with!
I'll say that I haven't had a chance to put the 6.8, Grendel, or 458 through their places with the new BCGS yet--the latter is ESPECIALLY notorious for chewing up bolts--so jury is still out on strength of the bolt, but like Alfred E. Newman: what, me worry? Two words: LIFETIME WARRANTY! If they have really made in inferior bolt for any of those, I will continue to punish them by sending the broken ones in for new ones. And if you have a backup BCG (like I recommended above) you won't have to be down a weapon for repairs.
That said, even with the necessarily thinner bolt face walls of these larger calibers, I have full confidence in Toolcraft and their products. I doubt I'll ever need to use their customer service.
Keep it up Toolcraft! Keep it up Monmouth! Because of you two, I'm building more than I ever thought of be able to afford!”
