“The place itself isn't enough to command such a high price though. The added value is all in the tour. And this is where it failed. There is tons of driving there and back. Alright it's a remote place, but what about explaining the history of the place, starting in the bus, there is so much to say about geology, history, maori culture, of the place and the whole region. We got so little info, and most of our questions couldn't find an answer. Very disappointing.”

“In 1979 my 12 year old son and I, walked and jogged up to the Mt Tarawera crater edge, and thought how dramatic the eruption must have been. Forty years later this Mt Tarawera Volcanic Crater Experience tour was not only far more challenging and exciting, but the tour guides provided interesting and informative details on the history of the mountain area and eruption, as well as geological explanations. Perhaps of even more importance was the guides concern for safety and ensuring that the two older members of the group were looked after. It was certainly a very worthwhile half-day tour.”

“Friendly, fun and knowledgeable tour guides made this a great experience. Hike is not too difficult and they don't rush the people that might be a bit slower than the rest, and the fast hikers can sit and take in the breathtaking views. Wide range of ages on our hike so suitable for kids and adults alike. There is a fun off-road 4WD part of the trip, but it can be *quite* rough so avoid the back of the bus if you have back or neck issues :D”
