“Bought the cage to stop the blackbirds from cleaning out all the food. Works well. I've Bought smaller ones and they don't work to keep out the nuisance birds. I have recommended the feeder.”
“It’s well made but the birds don’t use it. A different feeder filled with the same seed will be emptied and the birds still won’t use the one I bought from here. I don’t know if the holes are too small (talking sparrows and finches here) or the circumference of the cage is too small. I can’t advise anyone to purchase this feeder.”
“With this squirrel proof feeder I save money on feed and enjoy the great variety of small birds using the feeder. Works so great I bought one for my son.”
“This feeder stands out due to the fact that the cage is wide enough from the feeder tube; others would allow blackbirds and grackles to just hang on the side of the cage and reach in with their beak to eat. This feeder does not have that problem.
It took a while for some of the desired birds to understand how to get in - ones that have seen success here in Minnesota are goldfinches, black-capped chickadees, house finches, and downy woodpeckers. The rest are too big to get to the good seed.
I have a separate feeder with safflower which cardinals, doves and some blackbirds and grackles will eat from - but because of this feeder I no longer have a problem with swarms of grackles and blackbirds taking over.”
“Completely gray squirrel proof. Also keeps grackles and other black birds out. Wish I had these years ago..It's a pleasure watching the wrens and finches fly in to feed while the grackles can only watch for scaps.”
