So, I love this keyboard. I’ve been using it heavily for not quite a week and it’s performed flawlessly. It looks great, it’s sturdy, it does match my space grey iPad Pro perfectly, the hinges work just fine, the action on the keys is great, the backlight is sweet, etc, etc. Really, it was a great purchase. I have no regrets, and I would do it all over again. I should mention that this is in no way a paid review. I’m just doing this because I’m happy with my purchase, and they deserve a good review. So, why only 4 stars, you ask? It’s because I would like to have a companion app that lets me choose how long the timeout is on the keyboard’s Bluetooth connection to the iPad and how long the timeout is on the backlight. Neither are bad. But, I like to choose for myself, and I would prefer to be able to run my keyboard’s battery down faster by increasing the timeout length so I don’t have to hit a key every so often to keep the connection alive and the keyboard’s backlight on. An example of this is when I have to review a document I’m editing and it takes a while before I’m ready to type. The keyboard times out, and I have to hit a key to get it fired back on. Nearly all Bluetooth keyboards have been doing this for years, and I think it has to do with the manufacturer trying to avoid bad reviews on battery life. Just give people the option to choose their power consumption for themselves and give them the usual disclaimers. No big deal. We’re all adults. Just give us a simple table of lab tested drain times during varied settings (in the proposed companion app) and use scenarios and let consumers choose their own configuration as is done on every laptop on earth. That would garner the 5th star for me. Having said that, I would have given it 4.5 stars, if I could have. And, if I had chosen not to give feedback on the fixed timeout firmware setting, I would have given it 5 stars. Hell, I’d give it 6 stars if it came with a better case than what they currently offer of $20 to help protect the back of the iPad. Then again, seeing the two matching space grey metals together is seriously growing on me!

I had this for about a year. I’m not particularly rough with the keyboard and it generally sits on my desk, where I don’t move it (and I don’t remove the iPad from the keyboard ever). There are some advantages to this keyboard in that it’s backlit and the battery life on it is great (I’ve maybe only had to charge it 3-4x the entire time I’ve had it). I’ve also never had a Bluetooth problem with it and it always connects well with my iPad. Unfortunately, the cons out weigh the pros significantly as the mechanical design of this keyboard is very poor. During the year I had it, I had the rubber shims replaced twice and the hinges also broke off on both my original one and the replacement keyboard I was sent. Truthfully, the hinges are extremely fragile and very poorly designed. Unfortunately, my keyboard is out of warranty (1 year) by two months and I’m left with a keyboard without a hinge. Customer service suggested I purchase a new keyboard, but I spent $170 a little over a year ago-at a minimum the keyboard should last the life of the iPad. The only option once the hinge is broken is to completely replace the keyboard. I spent 170 on this just about 14 months ago and now it can no longer be used. I’d recommend looking at other keyboards because once this breaks (which I promise you the hinge will at some point break-you’ll be very disappointed).

It’s my second device, so I like it obviously. But my new arrival came with a “delete” key which is not properly attached. What do I do? Thanks, David Houghton

I’m very pleased with my 12.9” iPad case. It is solid unlike the plastic case that I had to replace because it broke in several places. The quality is outstanding, the finish is sleek and coordinates with my iPad and the keyboard is comparable to a laptop keyboard. I highly recommend the Brydge.
