Maybe it’s just a Bluetooth thing but this seems to miss key strokes for me almost every 3rd or 4th word. The keyboard is making me crazy and slows me way down in typing.

There is no question that this is built with very high quality material. However just like other reviews have stated, there is a severe lag when it comes to typing. You really need to learn to type a lot slower with this keyboard. It’s a bit irritating at first, but once you get used to it it is tolerable.

First off, I was spektical of an iPad Pro replacement my 13”MBP. When i purchased my iPad Pro I grabbed the Smart Keyboard and it was alright, my biggest issue was not having the backlit keys. This Keyboard is everything and more, I truly enjoy typing on it, its responsiveness, and the fact that the keys are backlit is a huge plus in my book.

Pros: Keyboard is well built, with nice sized keys and back lighting. The color is beautifully matched to the ipad (I have rose gold), and the silhouette is sleek. Everything said in the advertising is true, and I won’t reiterate it here. (I realize this means the pros will look shorter than the cons, but hopefully the overall star rating will help balance that) Cons: It is true that you have to hit the keys very hard on the Brydge keyboard compared to other ipad keyboard cases I have used if you want to avoid missed letters etc. Over time, you can adapt, but it does slow down my typing and adds a bit of stress to the fingers. If the ipad is fully seated in the keyboard, you can’t swipe up from an app to get the doc to drag up a second app for multi tasking. You can double hit the home button (top left button) on the keyboard to get the screen with all apps, or you can hold option, command and d keys simultaneously on the keyboard to get the dock. Also the protective back cover for the 10.5 ipad is not yet available. This is, for me, a major issue, as the reason I got this keyboard, since I already had another less expensive and more protective keyboard case, was to be able to detach the ipad and use it separately. Without any kind of protective case for the ipad itself, this makes feel a bit nervous about detaching the ipad and using it separately (carrying around a separate case to put on and remove every time I want to use the ipad without the keyboard is a bit much). For the price of this keyboard, it would be nice to have some transparent case for the ipad itself available. Otherwise, the keyboard feels very solidly built and will hopefully last longer than the keyboard cases I have used in the past.

I've been using my Brydge keyboard with my 12.9 inch iPad Pro -- and it has been great. But a word of caution. Given the large iPad Pro's size, the screen glass is more vulnerable to breakage than the smaller iPads. Pair that with the Brydge's hinge design - and you could end up with a fracture where the clip meets the screen. I rate myself as average - or maybe a little more than average - when it comes to handling fragile devices. So now, unfortunately, I have a hairline fracture in my iPad. It still works, but I worry that the fracture will grow. So -- just a word to the wise -- when using a 12.9 inch keyboard with your iPad Pro - be VERY careful.

I’ve been through countless keyboards with my iPad in search of the “Goldilocks” product that can transform the iPad into a true productivity device. The Brydge keyboard, while not perfect, is by far the best I’ve found so far, but with some caveats. Let’s start with the pros first. The hinge design is ingenious, and I’m amazed that nobody ever thought of it before. It holds the iPad securely and doesn’t restrict the tablet’s viewing angle like most other keyboards. More than anything else, this one feature is what makes the difference between a tablet with a keyboard and a laptop replacement. The second major advantage is the aluminum keyboard design itself. Quite simply, it’s beautiful, and provides the look and feel of an Apple product. Furthermore, it is as light as a feather and feels sturdy. Finally, the battery life is outstanding, although that wouldn’t even be a factor if the keyboard supported Apple’s smart connector instead of Bluetooth connectivity (more on that later) The hinge mechanism and keyboard design have turned my iPad Pro into a true laptop replacement that looks and feels like a portable MacBook. Now to the shortcomings, starting with the biggest one. For such a beautifully designed keyboard, typing can be a headache sometimes due to how unresponsive the keys can be. To register a key press, you really have to hit the keys hard. It’s not a dealbreaker, because I’ve adapted my typing style to compensate, but I do wish that the keys were as responsive as my prior Logitech keyboard. My second gripe is that the keyboard relies on Bluetooth rather than using the iPad Pro’s Smart Connector. Admittedly, that may not be feasible from a design perspective because of the hinge mechanism. If that’s the case, then fair enough. But if the exclusion of smart connector support isn’t simply an unavoidable compromise to accommodate the hinge, that would be really disappointing. Bluetooth is good enough, but it does require you to keep an eye on the keyboard’s battery level and the connection has a tendency to drop from time to time. My final gripe is another “nice to have”, but keeps the Brydge from being absolutely perfect. The keyboard does not protect the back of your iPad. I would love Brydge to provide a protective back casing with an embedded stand that allows you to remove the tablet and stand it on a tabletop when you’re not using the keyboard; for example when watching movies on a plane. Because of the sluggish keyboard response, I’m only giving the Brydge four stars. If it wasn’t for that, this accessory would be pretty close to perfect. My other gripes are nice to haves rather than absolute necessities. But these minor shortcomings aside, the Brydge is the best iPad keyboard I’ve ever encountered and is the one I’m going to stick with from now on. And yes, this review was written entirely on the Brydge. Even if I did have to hit the keys pretty hard in the process :-)
