Details: I'm very happy that I stumbled across the Btod site, after waffling over dozens of online reviews of other standing desks, and looking at some flimsy (but similarly priced) versions at a local office store. I think it was the Gadgeteer review of the Vertdesk that finally won me over ("this thing is a beast"). They weren't kidding. The Vertdesk is solid, and very high-quality. I wanted something that would be nice-looking and stable for gaming and this exceeds my expectations. The attention to detail, workmanship, and customer service that is on display in their website videos definitely comes through for real when you see the product. The quality is far above any other similarly priced desk that I looked at.
In fact, it's so solid that perhaps the one reservation I might offer is to be cautious if you plan on moving around a lot (college student, etc.). It's seriously heavy! Doesn't disassemble easily, and would probably be hard to transport around a lot without breaking your back and getting the top dinged up. It's not impossible to move, but I wouldn't want to do it very often.
The boxes were in seriously bad condition when it arrived, which caused me some concern. It looked like someone had used them for target practice and then run over them a few times with the delivery truck. I had read from other reviews that the company was good about exchanges/returns, but I didn't want to have to go through all that. Fortunately, when I opened things up, the desktop was well-protected with a very thick buffer inside of the box. Even after a close and careful inspection the top somehow hadn't received any damage at all! So +1 for the packaging department.
Assembly is not simple, but for someone who has any familiarity with tools it probably won't be a big deal. Took me about two hours total. There are two things to note here. First, you *will* need a screwdriver with a square head attachment. Trying to use an ordinary Philips to put those wood screws in would be near impossible, and you'd probably end up stripping them out. I had to borrow the right screwdriver from the neighbor. Or you could just hit up the hardware store and invest in a set of interchangeable screwdriver tips; it's not all that expensive and will last a lifetime.
Second thing is, while the online assembly video is quite helpful and recommended to watch, don't follow its order of assembly. If you put the stabilizing crossbar on before the u-channel (as they do in the video), then it becomes much harder to reach the u-channel screws. The instruction booklet that comes with the desk has things in the right order.
Overall it's not as hard as it probably sounds. Just be sure you have the right screwdriver tip.

“Very well made desk. Sturdy, little movement. Surface finish is nice, easy to assemble. The pre-drilled holes for everything is nice. No issues getting the motor rod installed. Probably the only significant improvement I'd like to see is instead of just wood-screws holding the legs on, it would be nice if they used the machined inserts & bolts in the desk like they do in a couple other spots. Would make setup a touch quicker, and if you have to move the desk a few times over its life, might make it last longer. Eventually those wood screws will lose their grip if you have to remove the surface on occasion.”

“I've only had this desk for about a week, so I can't speak to the longevity of the motor or materials, but it's really high quality. We had some trouble assembling it and had to postpone midway to borrow a more powerful drill. Some of the parts can be hard to align (hex rod, lookin' at you...) but once it's done, I had no wobbling at sitting height and minimal wobble at full height, nowhere near enough to spill a glass of water. The motor isn't terribly loud. A bit quieter than a hair dryer, louder than a fan if that helps at all. My supplies arrived with no defects or missing parts. The surface material seems durable and hard to scratch or dent, which is great because I chose the white top. I didn't go for the programmable switch, but I found that I didn't really need one anyway. Overall, I am very happy with this purchase and although the instructions and alignment could use a few tweaks, the minor frustration is outweighed by the end result: a beautiful, clean, sturdy, stylish desk for my freelance work and gaming.”
