Kintsugi Class - Japanese Repair Reviews

This is a fun activity in Clapham. , London

Kintsugi is an ancient art form that celebrates the Japanese philosophy of the beauty of imperfection. It involves putting broken pieces of pottery back together by embracing the cracks using Japanese gold mica powder. In this class, which honours the traditional Japanese art of fixing with gold, an experienced teacher from Art4Space will guide you through every step so that you leave with beautiful symbolic pottery with golden seams to treasure.

As well as enjoying the hands-on experience with all the materials provided, you will also learn a little about the history and philosophy of Kintsugi. We create up to 2 traditional Japanese bowls. You can also bring a piece of crockery if you wish (small vase, plate, bowl, cup), and we can explore how to fix this in the best way. We also have a vintage collection you can choose to repair.

Your teachers are people who love the reflection, symbolism, and art of Kintsugi. We have achieved the best results. One of our teachers recently returned from living in Japan and follows the wabi-sabi philosophy that encourages a mindful acceptance of life’s flaws and transient nature, finding beauty in the ordinary and everyday. So please don’t throw that pot away; come and join us and learn the golden seams technique!

Art4Space Community Arts Centre is a creative, inclusive, and welcoming environment to enjoy this unique London activity with friends for a special birthday party or team-building event.

For private bookings; come to us (maximum 32), or we can come to your venue/premises - any size party is ideal for corporate team building or sustainable business events. We don’t have a maximum number, depending on your event/venue capacity.
Private bookings for 2-2.5-hour workshops cost £54 per person plus travel expenses. We are flexible with timing—day, evening, or weekend, according to availability.
If you are a registered charity, we can offer discounts for group bookings.

Proceeds go towards our community art projects providing vulnerable individuals with mental health support in deprived areas in Lambeth, London.

Really enjoyed this class! I bought a Kintsugi kit years ago, but never used it. Learning this practically in a group setting, especially with the tips and tricks means I will definitely practice this again. The class was relaxed and easy to follow, and the teacher, John, really friendly and helpful, and explained everything clearly. Would absolutely recommend.

Wonderful class! Very well organized and run, great instruction, and we ended up with a lovely kintsugi product at the end. It encourages my partner and I to want to do more classes at this studio.
