This is a fun activity in Manchester

Just a five-minute walk from Ancoats, discover pottery at the New Dawn Pottery studio in Manchester.

Perfect for complete beginners, this relaxed 2-hour wheel throwing class is the ideal choice if you've always wanted to learn to throw a pot on the wheel in a fun, supportive environment.

Experience the magic of turning a lump of clay into your own handmade piece of art. You'll throw under the guidance of one of our friendly local teachers, who has plenty of tips to share, and you'll come away with the foundational skills for making beautiful pots on the wheel.

Beyond the new skill, there's the calm — wheel throwing is genuinely meditative, and two hours of it is a proper reset. Step into this warm and welcoming studio and leave with your own handmade pottery.

There's space for 8 people per class, so everyone gets their own wheel and individual attention. It's ideal for date nights, birthdays, friends, or coming on your own to try something new in Manchester.

At the end of the session, choose your favourite pieces to be glazed and fired in our kiln for £7.50 each, with a wide range of glaze colours to pick from. Finished ceramics are food-safe and usually ready to collect within 4-6 weeks. We can post them to you if you can't get back to the studio.

Please note
- Please arrive on time — if you're late you may miss the demo.
- No liability is accepted for misuse of the studio space.

“We all enjoyed the class, however, there was not a good enough teacher to participant ratio. This meant my sister was left with very little assistance from the teacher because there were too many other people for her to have to assist. It must be added, I myself, am completely blind, the teacher was fantastic in making things inclusive and supporting me when I needed her help. The equipment was dirty on arrival as were the aprons. The cleaning up process at the end took some time so I think the overall length of the class should have been extended. It didn’t feel like it was very long that we were able to do the activity itself, but that might just be because we enjoyed ourselves. I would definitely book again but would have been much happier with the experience had there been either less participants or more teachers.”

“Humorous pottery tutor, peaceful atmosphere. It was an interesting first time experience, albeit messy. I look forward to collecting the glazed bowl. I’d come back for a clay hand building class instead.”

“Really enjoyed this class. I was a complete beginner, but managed to produce three pots which were actually quite good. The time went so quickly. The teacher was informative, and very patient.”

“Excellent introduction to pot throwing. Wear scruffy clothes - you will get clay on them however careful you are!”
