Kintsugi Pottery Repair Workshop Reviews

This is a fun activity in Heswall, Liverpool

We need to become more aligned with the concept that something being “broken” does not mean that it is useless. Nor do we have to see the concept of actually restoring something as making it ‘as new’.

Kintsugi teaches us that in life we can turn adversity into something that is beautiful and resilient and shows us that in time, we can heal from our wounds, embrace our imperfections, and become stronger.

Kintsugi known as the golden repair translates as ‘kin’ meaning gold and ‘tsugi’ meaning 'join'.

Using a 2-part epoxy glue, premium non-toxic and gold powder we will repair a Japanese-inspired piece of pottery.

We will take our time and gently convert our bowl into a beautiful piece to display and cherish reminding us that no matter our difficulties, we can find a way to reframe and find meaning in life.

I had a fabulous afternoon with Sam learning Kintsugi. The Barn is such a creative space, I’ll definitely be returning with my family for more courses in the future.

The teacher was good. Sadly my pieces just didn't want to go back together. I was holding a piece and it wouldn't hold, she gave it to another student to hold for a few minutes whilst I was sat there watching. The tutor put in the resting place and the 2 pieces fell apart again. As it was ½ past 3 and none of my pieces were together I thanked her and left.

Great class. My partner and I enjoyed it immensely. Came out with new skills and knowledge and a couple of really good pieces. Sam was a really good teacher, ably assisted by Katie with Callum providing the drinks. P.s. try a hot chocolate

Well planned, all materials, tools and safety equipment laid out for each of us. Friendly welcome. Clear instructions about each stage; explanations of materials to be used. We were shown how to break our chosen ceramic; how to sand the broken edges, then clean the raw edges; she stressed that we needed to work slowly, and would need to hold and support each glued joint for 10 mins before starting the next joint. A coffee break was scheduled for an appropriate time, while our glued ceramics were resting and getting stronger. She gave us a choice of how to finish off, eg removing uneven glue or accentuating it with with the gold laquer. After each stage she removed the equipment and used materials, so our work stations were kept tidy. She was very helpful in answering my questions, and gave some advice on a project I had in mind. Overall a relaxed, engaging enjoyable workshop, I was in safe and knowledgeable hands!
