Beginner's Guide to Pointillism Art Class Reviews

4.6 Rating 40 Reviews
Read ClassBento UK Reviews

Discover the incredible effects that you can create with pointillism! This wonderful art technique uses tiny dots of various different colours to create an optical illusion where the dots blend in the viewer’s eye.

Guided by one of our expert Hobbycraft Artisans, you will learn all about how to prepare your artwork and how to recreate this fascinating technique, invented by the artist Seurat. You can choose to follow along with your own materials or book with a craft kit included.

Pointillism combines creativity and precision, but you’ll love watching the picture begin to appear. Learn how to build colour and vibrance by adding more of a specific colour of dots, keeping everything small and delicate as you produce your very own masterpiece.

The class will take an online webinar format, giving you the opportunity to watch a live demonstration of the project while also being able to ask any questions. The host will lead you through different acrylic techniques over the course of two hours, taking you through the steps of mixing and layering your colours and adding depth to the piece.

You’ll be shown all the steps required allowing you to paint along, or you can work on your piece at any pace you choose. You will also receive a how-to video which will be live for 12 months after the class to help guide you along in your own time.

Simply select your chosen design from the dropdown menu to join the right workshop for you. You can choose from one Seurat-inspired piece, one Van Gogh-inspired piece and one created by our Hobbycraft Artisan.

This workshop is also available as a private workshop for group bookings with craft kits of 5+.

I really enjoyed this class. Really relaxing being dotty! I'm not sure if I would class it as a beginner's level though. I was able to keep up as I have used acrylics a lot previously. However l, I felt that the colour mixing for a beginners' class was rather rushed. My other issue was that the class was very muffled on the zoom - not sure if that's the teacher's mike or my laptop microphone. I don't normally experience this with other zoom sessions. I mentioned it in the chat box but no one responded!

Loved this class and the freedom it gave me to experiment. Lovely and friendly tutor who gave lots of reassurance it didn’t need to be perfect.

Really enjoyable class and having 2 hours was super in order to do most of the project. Very knowledgeful instructor who made it look easy and explained every step.

Excellent session, short on time as always- the allotted time slot is never enough time but gives you a chance to have an expert tutorial. Perfect way to spend a sunday

This class was brilliant. So well planned and instructed. It took us step by step but with options to add our own essence! I really enjoyed it and felt very mindful whilst doing it. Thank you for such an enjoyable class.

It was a new skill to learn and interesting. The teacher was great but I do wish she checked in a little more and reassured throughout and not just at the end. May just be me but felt very lost and very behind at times. Might’ve been helpful to recap what we are doing/ done. I think the teacher was lovely but so into it that she sometimes forgot where she was and was very silent. At least she said there is a video at the end. I will definitely need it so I can revisit it at my leisure. It has turned out alright.

Our teacher (Emma) was really friendly, went through the class at a good pace, and gave lots of tips and tricks to make it work. One thing that would have made it better, would be to include an outline of the basic shape in the kit so this could be traced / copied on, and perhaps to mention needing a plastic surface for mixing as we didn’t realise this and did it on paper which didn’t work too well, but overall a really good class and a really interesting technique!

Friendly teacher and excellent step by step instructions. I'm pleased with the results and now have the skills to play around with the concept.
