This tour not simply met my expectations, it surpassed them. Our guide was incredibly experienced and was well versed in the habits, calls and preferred habitats of target birds and also posessed a wealth of knowledge regarding the history and customs of the original custodians of this rugged land. He was incredibly helpful and went out of his way to help the group obtain encounters with some of the more elusive target birds such as the sandstone shrikethrush and the black-banded fruit dove. The other members of the group were friendly and supportive, taking on certain duties such as recording species and helping others get on to the birds, ensuring that everyone got the opportunity to see the birds we found. The nine days I was on this tour was an incredible adventure with something new to see and experience each day, including birds, breathtaking landscapes, ancient artwork, flora and other fauna. As an Aussie, I was already familiar with many of the birds we encountered in the NT and still I saw and heard many new fascinating species each and every day with scores of "lifers" added to my list by the end of it all. Whether you are a visitor from overseas or interstate, I highly recommend the Tropical Australia Eagle Eye birding tour.

This tour, which took place in October 2022, was a huge disappointment. The guide, Rob Elvish, had not done any preparation and did not seem like he even wanted to be in the Northern Territory. Relying on his last time leading this tour, pre-pandemic, we had days where we did not get our target birds (this does happen, but this time it was because of lack of homework) and the places where we were scheduled to eat lunch were closed and had been closed for months. There were times when the trip became unsafe and participants returned to the bus because they didn't feel like they could safely do the hikes. For example, one evening we were led to believe that a hike would be a simple walk and we did not have the hiking boots, walking sticks, and headlamps required for a steep climb at sunset. I am only giving this tour 2 stars because of Chris, the assistant leader, who really saved the tour with his knowledge of how to use eBird and other smartphone apps.

Donna, thank-you for submitting your detailed feedback, it is extremely helpful to have such a comprehensive overview of the unfolding of this trip. We are sorry that this tour did not live up to your expectations and have taken your comments to the guide. We are also making efforts to ensure that our app and website more clearly reflect the grade of hiking involved each day and that our guides provide better information about what is involved in each hike. We are happy to hear that you valued having Chris as a guide on the tour. Thank you for taking a tour with us and we hope to see you on another tour one day.

This was a great blend of birding and Aboriginal culture. Having a Barking Owl stare back at me made me forget completely how hot and humid it was! Beautiful birds and Australians have to be the friendliest people I have ever encountered.

I think that many of us think that Australia is hot and dry, maybe wet in some seasons. I found that the variety was so enjoyable-- weather, habitats, birds, reptiles, plants. I enjoy birdwatching but Nature and all its variety is almost overwhelming in Australia. I was pleased that we were introduced to Aboriginal Culture during this tour. I recommend this trip to anyone who wants new experiences and new Nature.

Birding from the get-go. Knowledgeable guides provided a great introduction to the birds, landscape, and people of the Northern Territory. Good accommodations. A few meals on the fly were sort of make-shift, but that was a small price to pay for the excellent birding. And some super meals more than made up for those. I had a great time and the tour more than met my expectations. Well worth it.

What a treat to be with a guide whose respect for locals--other guides, wait staff, boat tour operators, everyone--meant they went the extra mile for Barry, to our benefit! But what stands out for me now was seeing the birds in this starkly beautiful land in the context of its ancient Aboriginal rock art.
