Jan 19 - 29, 2026 | Our Belize & Tikal birding tour visits three outstanding birding locations: the incredible wetlands of Crooked Tree, the rainforest around Pook's Hill and the ancient Mayan temples at Tikal National Park. We will look for woodcreepers, tanagers, cotingas, manakins, toucans, trogons, king vultures, ocellated turkeys, and orange-breasted falcons and much more.

Great tour excellent guides both tour and local. Highly recommended some flexibility could be provided for extended Tikal ruins visit for those that wanted it since local transportation is available from the lodge to then ruins.

The Eagle-Eye and local guides were topnotch, the birds spectacular and the history interesting. The jungle and the marsh habitats were chock full of wildlife. I saw the rare Lovely Cotinga after Oscar ran back to get those of us walking behind on the trail!

We’re thrilled you enjoyed the Eagle-Eye experience, the guides, and the birds and wildlife of Belize and Guatemala. We were so happy to hear that Oscar went the extra mile to help everyone catch the sighting of the Cotinga! Little moments like those make for truly great experiences!

as minimally experienced tropical birders we really appreciated this trip. The full time guides and the local guides were extremely knowledgeable and also exceptionally helpful and were all very good at always making sure we got to see as many birds as possible. A very friendly and knowlegeable group of participants on the tour was also a plus.

We’re so glad you chose to join us in Belize and Tikal—especially as new to tropical birding—and that Matthew and Oscar helped make the experience both enjoyable and rewarding with great sightings and guidance. It’s wonderful to hear your group shared such a strong sense of camaraderie. We like to think we have the best travellers out there, and we’re delighted you were part of it!

Our guide was a good birder but had never been to this location. And that was problematic, especially at Tikal. We and others picked this tour because of the ruins. And as a result of not knowing the shuttle schedule, those of us who did not want to walk 1.8 miles back to the lodge (after a 5 hour walk in the morning) our tour with the expert was 45 minutes! Others did persevere and had another approx. 2 hours with the guide and walked back to the lodge. Since the tour includes Tikal, it should have been the focus of that section and with birding taking a secondary emphasis for one of the days. There was a museum which we did not have time to visit and were not even informed about. Overall, the tour was good, except for the above comments. The lodges were wonderful, food great, a beautiful area of the world and lots of birds!

We appreciate your concerns regarding guide experience on this itinerary. While it is part of our practice to introduce guides to new regions as part of their professional development, this is always done alongside experienced leadership to ensure a high-quality experience. On this tour, Oscar had just completed the same itinerary the week prior and brought current, in-depth knowledge, and we also engaged a highly experienced local guide in Tikal to provide additional regional expertise. Although our second guide was new to this itinerary, he is a highly qualified wildlife biologist with extensive international guiding and research experience. We stand behind his credentials, though we regret that his familiarity with the region did not meet your expectations. We appreciate your positive remarks about the birdlife, food, and accommodations, and thank you again for taking the time to share your feedback.

An incredible experience! This was our first eagle eye tour and we will definitely be going on another. The Belize & Tikal tour offers excellent birding, with every day providing something new, in addition to the added bonus of visiting Maya Ruins and learning about them from a local Maya guide. The other wonderful local guides who joined for the trip are also excellent! The expectations for this tour were well outlined prior to signing up - you will be walking a lot! The ability to stay in different locations for multiple nights is a great choice, as it allows the participants to decide if they need a break while always being close to the action. The two main guides were so helpful, kind, and skilled, and really stressed open communication to ensure that all participants felt taken care of - to me, this is the sign of a superb guide. And did I mention the food!? Yum. Highly recommend!

The tour was an amazing bird festival finding native species too incredible for words. The historical tour of the Mayan ruins completed this memory making adventure. We left with a true appreciation for Belize and Tikal. It was more than we expected and highly recommended.
