At this time of year, raptor and passerine migration is in full swing with the passage of millions of hawks en route to their wintering grounds. “This was an excellent tour with extremely knowledgeable guides. We had a perfect morning viewing the River of Raptors. We enjoyed the coffee plantation tour and accompanying lunch. The accommodations were comfortable and well chosen for their exposure to birds. The Observatory Lodge is a very special place and we're glad you chose it.”

“This was one of the most awe-inspiring birding trips that i have ever participated in. It went well beyond pointing out "exotic birds". We witnessed the annual cycle of life as millions of birds migrate through Costa Rica on thier way from North to South America. The trip covered 3 distinct habitats from the mountains to the coast. I was amazed at birding guide Ernesto Carmin's ability to locate birds through sound and sight; and his eagerness to share his deep knowledge of the interdependence between the flora and fauna and how birds and their enviroments exist in delicate harmony, each depending on the other for balance and survival. Jody Allard from Birds Canada's enthusiasm and joy at seeing different birds was infectious. This trip was life-affirming, giving us hope that in spite of climate change and the destruction of environments by humans, the birds will survive if enough people care and work together to create safe spaces, conserve habitats, and become guardians to help birds survive and flourish.”

“The thing that made this trip so special for me was that the tour leaders possessed such extensive knowledge about the entire ecosystem. So we didn't just visit the well known birding stops, but were shown some amazing spots that were off the tourist radar. The tour leaders' sharing info about their work in conservation enhanced the entire experience for me and made the trip so much more than I expected.”

“The tour was fast-paced and exhausting at times, but in exchange we got to see a ton of cool things. The hotels we stayed at were lovely, the food was delicious, and I learned a great deal not just about birds, but trees, flowers, frogs, insects, fungi, and much more. With the dream team of Ernesto, Jody, and driver Ricardo, we saw so much more than I expected!”
