The tour was well organized. The leader and driver were well informed and easy to get along with. We saw numerous birds and other animals from the vehicle. Accommodations were good and varied. Meals were generally good. Our group was small - 6 people which was a bonus.

If you want to see a lot of birds, have a comfortable bed every night, and enjoy good breakfasts and dinners, this is the perfect tour for you. You will also have many opportunities to see African mammals in a spectacular setting and maybe some reptiles but it's really about the birds. The trip list exceeded 400 species thanks to the expertise of our leader and driver. Be prepared for very bumpy roads and unimaginative packed lunches.

I have been on several birding tours and this one gets a blue ribbon. Tanzania is an incredible destination. The first evening started out with sightings of Slender-tailed Nightjars and a Spotted Eagle-Owl and the trip just went up from there. We saw well over 400 bird species and thousands of different animals over several ecosystems. The trip is a combination of birding and wildlife viewing at its finest. James is a very knowledgeable bird guide. He is also very familiar with many aspects of Tanzania, having lived there for several years. The accommodations were all very good and located in beautiful scenic places. We were an ‘easy’ group when it came to food as there were no special dietary requirements, but every location asked about dietary constraints, nonetheless. It is also a bonus to see Mount Kilimanjaro, the Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater, the Rift Valley, and Olduvai Gorge - all places I have read about in the past. This was my first trip to Africa and now certainly not my last.

Outstanding views of mammals as expected on an African safari, but seeing birds in their breeding season and plumage made this safari unique. The guide and driver were incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. It exceeded my expectations in every way.

Our Tanzania adventure was packed with wonderful things from beginning to end. We saw well over 400 bird species and dozens of species of mammals, not to mention all the reptiles, amphibians, insects, plants and a few mushrooms. The tour was very well-organized and led by a phenomenal guide. James knows all the birds and their calls, but more than that he can tell you about their habits, their migratory patterns and even their taxonomic history. If that wasn’t amazing enough, is he has a pretty large knowledge set of the mammals, insects and plants too! An old-world naturalist at heart, he loves nothing more than talking birds and their habitats. The green backdrop of the springtime parks loaded with flowers was beautiful and the parks were not very busy. I would not want to do this trip in the dust season. Two cautionary notes. Make sure to leave a buffer day at KIA Lodge for the trip home because flights from Mwanza to Kilimanjaro are not 100% reliable. Also note that many of the lodges turn off the electricity from around 10pm to 6am so if you need electrons during the night, prepare for that. We all had so much fun!

Truly a trip of a lifetime. We saw about four hundred birds and thousands and thousands of animals. We were amazed by the many unique birds and the number of animals that are so close to, or even on, the road. The accommodations are quite varied and all quite enjoyable. We stayed in two places with tents that had flush toilets and hot showers. At a couple places we saw wildlife and heard lions. The food was delicious and we ate well. It was an amazing trip.
