Gaggia Bottomless Portafilter Reviews

I upgraded to a Gaggia Classic from a Capresso EC Pro which came with a bottomless portafilter so when I ordered the Gaggia I ordered this right away. If fits perfectly and comes with a triple shot basket which is nice for my wife as she likes a stronger latte and I use the double shot basket that came with the Gaggia for myself. All I can say is get one.

This is a very nice quality bottomless portafilter. However, it did not fit my Gaggia Classic (purchased last year). Perhaps Gaggia has slightly changed the size of the grouphead? The diameter of this portafilter appeared to be just a few millimeters too big. So unfortunately, I had to return it. In general, however, I would highly recommend using a bottomless portafilter, as it will greatly improve one's crema (as well as one's technique).

I'm a home espresso maker and have been curious about bottomless. Gotta say, I'm never going back. This works perfectly with my Gaggia Classic, using the double-shot basket that came w/machine. My only gripe is that the triple basket provided with this new portafilter springs up out of the pf, & futzing w/the spring doesn't seem to help; only option is using it w/out the spring, with the issues that entails. But this is not a big deal for me as I don't generally want to pull a triple. If you're on the fence, I can tell you this really does help you see how well you've done at the grind, dose and tamp. I've read stories of bottomless mishaps, but after pulling dozens of shots over a few weeks, it seems that's really overblown. I've pulled maybe two that were a little messy with some brief spray/misting; when all is right, that doesn't happen. I can also confirm that it's really fun to see the shot emerge w/nice tiger striping, which also helps you know when to stop the pull. Other benefits: lots more crema and better taste, due to not going through spouts. And lots easier to clean, too.

Purchased for Gaggia Classic. I purchased it with the single shot basket. It comes with a triple basket and the Classic's double basket fits nicely. The unit looks great and has several advantages over the Classic's stock portafilter in addition to being bottomless: -Handle is a little better (soft instead of hard plastic, rounded end instead of sharp end. -Very easy to clean -Retaining ring is much better - no filter baskets in the trash.

I purchased this bottomless portafilter for my Gaggia Classic and am very pleased with it. I also ordered the double basket to go with it which is very nice and fits my 58 mm tamper perfectly. The portafilter is very high quality and it fits my classic perfectly (I use a silicone gasket). In addition to being able to see tiger striping, which is very telling and cool, another benefit that I didn't foresee is this portafilter is easier to keep clean with multiple uses than the stock one. Highly recommended!!

The fit and finish on this portafilter is much nicer than the factory portafilter that I received with the unit. A bottomless portafilter is a great tool for learning how grind and tamping affects extraction.

I purchased the bottomless portafilter for a Gaggia classic. The fit and build quality are fine. We are making better espresso with this than with the factory supplied portafilter.

Fits perfectly on the Gaggia Classic, and the texture of the crema is a lot fluffier. It's also a lot easier to clean than the original portalfilter. The triple basket that comes with it works very well too. I highly recommend this portafilter if you own a Classic.
