“Since I own a machine shop, I'm a fairly handy guy, and I have to admit that when my wife's Rancilio doser quit "dosing", it wasn't hard to disassemble the machine and find the problem. Assuming that the spring (now busted into two pieces) would be unobtainable or unreasonably expensive, I went out to the shop and fabricated a temporary replacement part out of a chunk of old bandsaw blade. It got the doser going so that she could get her morning "fix" of espresso, which makes her happier, so it was worth the hour that I spent on annealing, shaping, hardening, and tempering my temporary fix.
Only after the "emergency" repair was complete did I start looking on-line for a permanent replacement part. I couldn't believe what I found: a perfect replacement part, shipped via U.S. Postal Service, at a great price, and no excessive "handling" charges! When the spring arrived from EspressoParts.com, I replaced my "temporary" fix with the "perfect" part and taped the one that I made to the back of the doser, just in case there's a "next time".
