“The Horizon is my first E-Scooter and I am totally in love. I've had so much fun on it since I got it, And now that the weather is getting warmer, I am out all the time! I bring my Boston Terrier in her dog back pack when I go!”
“I've had the scooter for a couple months now (but haven't ridden too many miles since most everything has been shut down). That said, the times I've ridden it's been great. Max speed has been up to 24 mph, and I weigh 200 lbs. It's light enough to carry up and down the stairs in my office without too much problem. It would be better if it could have had a USB-C charger. The one that comes with it has to be lined up just right, and it would have been nice to have an easy charging solution in multiple places rather than having to carry the charger with you. My other niggle is that the rear fender is really flimsy. If you accidentally put any pressure on it at all, it rubs the rear tire. The drum brake is good, but a disc would have been much better. All told, it's a very nice scooter at a nice price. I'll update in 6 months to let you know about reliability when I start riding it every day.”
“This is my first electric scooter, but I have owned electric bikes, skateboards etc. for years now.
Ride & Comfort: The first thing I noticed was the deck is a bit small for me. (I'm 6ft/190). Second thing I noticed is the handle bar feels unstable, particularly when braking, but I've since learned that this is typical for a medium/smaller scooter with a folding mechanism.
I didn't like the way it rode at first, in terms of the smaller deck size and balance, but it grew on me after I got in a comfortable standing position.
Aesthetically speaking, they could make some improvements, such as an integrated lcd in the center console, rather than the attached lcd. The screen on the lcd is fine, but being attached to the handlebar makes it feel homemade and not professional.
From an engineering standpoint, I don't understand the two different wheels, or the front brake, rather than a rear brake. The front brake causes you to tilt forward, while leaning into a wobbly handlebar. (Not ideal/but can adapt to after a few rides). I also would prefer a twist throttle than a trigger, as the trigger is uncomfortable to hold down on long rides. Pair that with the fact that this device has no cruise control, and the fact that I paid for the larger battery, and you basically have a cluster**** of a design. (Comfort is paramount for long rides).
The final flaw with this scooter, which for me is the nail in the coffin is the lost top speed with decreased battery output.
I am familiar with this, as my older ebike will go only 12mph or so, rather than the full 20mph it can output when it dwindles down to the final bar of battery. (1/5). This feels reasonable to me, as the bike is old, (2015), and the battery is nearly kaput at that point, with probably 15% juice remaining.
The problem with the controller/battery/shi*** Chinese combination on this scooter is that at about three bars out of five, the top speed decreases from "23mph," (22 for me), to 20 mph.
This may not seem like much, but it's very disappointing for someone that paid extra $ for the upgraded battery.
IMO, it should not drop off like that so soon in your ride, especially for a newer scooter with more efficient components.
Ultimately, for the price, I would of preferred to pay another 100$ for the Unagi. It has less range, but realistically, I'm not taking 20/25 mile rides on a medium sized scooter.
As I said in the title, my fault for choosing the "board in the middle," because this board is too small and uncomfortable for long rides, and too heavy to bring on a the subway/carry around etc.
I would advise others to not make this mistake if it's your first scooter, because you will want either: a lighter package that you can carry around (city use), or a larger scooter with more power and range (long rides on the road). I do like this company for the most part, so I would say their own smaller/larger scooters are a good option.
For 700$ you could opt for the smaller battery and that would be fine for this scooter, but for me the extra battery/range was useless for my needs, and the loss of top speed is just depressing.
It's not all grim though. Here are some positives:
Fits in the trunk of most cars
Range is legit, though top speed drops at three bars
Good alternative to a larger Ebike or less safe electric skateboard
Pretty solid build quality, outside of the wobbly handle bar
I haven't had the issue that others/reviewers have highlighted, where the twisting/locking mechanism on the handlebars becomes loose
Fun toy!
TLDR: Small scoot good for city, large scoot good for long rides. Extra battery pointless for this scooter. This scoot is a toy in the trunk of my car that may save my ass someday if my car breaks down...at a reduced top speed of 20mph when it hits 3 bars, of course.
3/5*”
“I wanted to wait before I did my review. I wasn't really sure what to expect before I received this scooter. Unfortunately there aren't many review videos on YouTube about the Horizon so I was excited, but really I had no idea how awesome this scooter would end up being. I've put over 100 miles on the Horizon since I received it. I wanted to make sure this scooter performed like the quality it was screaming once I took it out of the box. It's a very good looking scooter. However looks can be deceiving. The real question is how does it perform? It's incredible. Plain and simple. The build quality is exceptional. It exceeded my expectations at every turn. I did reach a top speed of 24mph as promised. I went 25 miles in gear 3 and 30 miles in gear 2. Unfortunately the scooter does slow down going up steep hills but that was to be expected. It is so much fun to ride on the main roads in the rural areas around where I live but it's even more fun to ride around town. I would absolutely say if you're wanting a scooter that is a step above the entry level scooters like the Segway's and Xiaomi's of the world, then this is the scooter for you. It's not so fast that it would terrify a newer rider, but it has enough speed to satisfy the hobbyists out there. The customer service is also wonderful. Very quick response from Fluid free ride. Once I am ready to upgrade to a more powerful scooter I definitely want to get the Mantis. Hopefully it will be back in stock sometime soon.”
“I recently purchased the upgraded horizon scooter, and I must admit it is indeed fluid.i am a 6 foot 265 pound guy and am receiving a lot of compliments and request of where this machine can be purchased.i am pleased with the service, company and the product.looking forward to the availability of the trolley wheel accessory, eyeing the mantis Pro next on my coveted purchase list, especially if folding handle bars are indeed added.i got my behind the scene eyes on you fluidfreeride.com, keep up the good works, you deliver.”
Hi Claude,
Thank you for your review. Happy to hear you enjoy the Horizon. The Mantis would indeed be the next step for an advanced rider :) Keep it fluid!
“Customer service is great. Great for a city were parking can be tough. Kinda heavy but easy enough to carry up a flight of stairs or onto a train/bus for that last mile. Buy only if you find a pleasure blowing past bikers up hills.”
“I did a ton of research and this scooter was exactly as advertised. Great true range of 25 miles, very smooth acceleration... great floor going up hills, very stable; I can ride it with one hand while I adjust my backpack or check my phone (be careful). Weight is manageable and I can carry it into the grocery store and grab some items without needing to get a cart and do the whole wipe-down Covid thing; in and out... it's great.
This is an every-day rider. Not the head turning acceleration of the Mantis but for errands and going to work it's ideal. Tops out at about 24 MPH which is plenty fast as I go through lots of parking lots and side streets... any faster would be more dangerous. Also upgrading to Mantis would require helmet and 20 more pounds of weight; just wouldn't be practical for me to lug around all day. Also the summer is coming and I live in Vegas so a Mantis might get a bit hot when it's 110 outside will all of its firepower.
The motor seems very efficient and the smooth acceleration makes steep hills not problem. I ride over 20 miles on some days and battery life is never a problem.
Great quality and value. I didn't have any problem with the handle bar locks coming unscrewed as some video review mentioned. A few tittle inconveniences like no bell, low headlamp, weird area for charging port but these are minor.
Great value and overall experience. I will be getting all of my scooters from this company; can't go wrong.”
