“While I appreciate the importance of autism awareness training, I found this course to be excessively long and difficult to engage with. Much of the content consisted of large blocks of text accompanied by a continuous narration, which made it challenging to maintain focus and retain the information being presented. The short quizzes throughout the course were helpful, but they were not frequent or interactive enough to reinforce learning effectively. I also felt that a significant portion of the content focused on historical background, research details, and other theoretical information that, while interesting, may not be directly relevant to the practical needs of most airport staff. As a Security Officer and On-the-Job Trainer, I believe the training would be far more effective if it focused on real-life scenarios and practical guidance. Many employees have limited or no previous experience interacting with autistic individuals, and what staff need most is confidence in handling situations such as: Meltdowns and emotional distress Sensory overload and overstimulation Communication difficulties Reasonable adjustments in various work environments Appropriate responses and de-escalation techniques Given that this training is mandatory for all airport staff, I believe it should place greater emphasis on practical examples, case studies, stories, and scenario-based learning. Clear guidance on what actions to take in specific situations would be far more useful in improving interactions with autistic passengers than extensive factual or historical information. I also found the scenario navigation frustrating. In several instances, I chose to move on to a different topic because I did not feel the current scenario was relevant to my learning needs. However, the system required me to complete the scenario regardless of my selection. This made the learning experience feel less intuitive and more like a box-ticking exercise rather than a flexible learning tool. Overall, my recommendation would be to reduce the amount of theoretical content to the minimum necessary and replace it with more practical scenarios. This would make the training more engaging, improve knowledge retention, and better prepare staff to provide appropriate support and reasonable adjustments for autistic passengers in real operational situations. Rating: 2/5 Main improvement suggestion: Less theory and historical background, more practical scenarios, examples, and actionable guidance.”
