“Well yes, they can as I just found out. I have been using these connectors with various hoses for many years and have previously had 100% confidence in them. For the first time ever, last night one of two hoses (connected together with these 18mm end connectors) was ejected from the connector with predictable results. On checking, the brand of hose that failed had a slightly thinner wall than the other brand in the connection so I am hoping that is the reason for the failure. Anyway I guess the take-home point is - don't assume that even with these great connectors nothing can go wrong!”
