The lance pen hides the needle and the thump of the pen distracts from the poke. I have it set to 2 and get a nice size sample for testing. My fingers don't hurt like I expected. Knowing my glucose and ketone levels helps me to know I'm on the right path, even when the scale stalls. A tape measure and the mojo are very encouraging. It syncs easily with the phone app
