The newest "core" set is good for new player but for older vets or players who solely play scum and villainy it will be a bit of a harder sell but still has many new and useful components. The new ships are cool and I look forward to seeing more ships from episode 7.

Over all the game is a good buy if your starting out with the game. The first set has more items but with the revised rules making it easier to understand and play. Models are still very detailed and paint jobs are clean looking. I recommend this game for anyone looking for a fun one on one game set to play.

if you already have the original Core Set, don't turn away from this one. getting 3 shipping sat a discounted price is nothing to ignore and the addition of more dice and templates will make the game much more enjoyable two players! I highly recommend purchasing a second core set

Great update for x-wing. The new damage deck helps play seem less lopsided and ship dependent. The new models just show that FF is improving their build quality. Awesome introduction for new players or for fully established players.

Seriously - while this may not constitute a "new edition" exactly, the rules were tightened up here and there and the maneuver dials on the new ships definitely improved game play for me - and I love the idea that performance has improved because these ships are from "The FUUUUTUUURE!!!" Point costs have gone up, too, so it's compatible with the old set without "power creep." This iteration of X-wing lacks some of the "character" of the initial box - named TIE pilots no longer have cool names like "Mauler" and "Night Beast." They have decided instead to simply follow the formula "(Squadron Name) Ace" for Ties and X-wings alike. The sole exception is "Poe Dammeron" in the top X-wing slot (Pilot Skill 8). This is, of course, because nobody knows much about the new film yet... That said, the pilot abilities and upgrades in this box are all pretty good, even if it feels like FF was a little stingy with the latter. (You don't even get enough to fill all the available slots on all your ships...) The new BB-8 Astromech is fantastic, and Wired needs to show up in an expansion ship ASAP because folks will want more than one.

These ships are an awesome addition to my collection. The new movement dials for the ships really spice up the game and the upgrade cards, though few, also add some unique squad build opportunities.
