Contains the updated rules going forward in the game, a better damage deck, and the new ships. A good buy, although personally I wish the T-70 was in Poe's colors.

If you play X-Wing, you'll love this new set! A brand new damage deck, and upgrades on the ships make for interesting game play. This new set does feature the ships from the upcoming "Force Awakens" movie coming out this winter. And to make someone who is interested in this game aware, this is NOT a complete game. You get 3 ships, one for the Resistance (Rebels) faction, and two for the First Order (Empire) faction. You will have to buy other expansions to field different ships and pilots, but you get enough in this box to learn how to play.

I held off buying the original core set when it first came out. With the release of this new core set, and the new movie coming out I could no longer hold back and gave into buying this game. So glad that I did. Not only is it fun to play, but the quality of the parts are very top notch. Not just the miniatures, but the cardboard tokens as well. I have been dealing with quite a few different games in the last few years that use cardboard bits and these are by far the highest quality I have seen so far. You cannot go wrong with this game even if you only buy the core and nothing else.

This new core set presents some great new options. The new TIE/FO have better durability and the T-70 is more maneuverable. The Ties are the same ship design with a new paint scheme, but the T-70 is an entirely new model. As others mentioned, many organized events will be requiring the new damage deck from this set soon. If you are just starting out, I recommend picking up one of these as well as the original core set - you'll want the extra dice anyway, and an extra set of templates is good to have also.

In anticipation of the new Star Wars film, FFG has released the T-70 and Tie/FO fighters in a new core set. This product is both a recommended and yet somewhat awkwardly required purchase for the game, as the new damage deck in the game will be required by the end of this year if not the beginning of next year. Still despite this issue the this is a great way to build you anticipation up for the film, as well as get three new exciting ships with new options. Including a new Tech upgrade, and powered up maneuver dials allowing these ships more options than their original core set predecessors.

You know those tiny spoons at ice creams shops, where you want to know if you should order this or that particular flavor? That's this box. It's a complete taste, but not a complete game. It's important to know that. This box gives new players enough stuff to know if they're going to actually have fun playing the game. That's its primary function, and I think it succeeds at that function. It has enough stuff for a potentially fun- small- 2 player game. The ships themselves are well painted and well detailed. They simply look _pretty_. I do sometimes take out my collection to show people who appreciate good models. The secondary function of this box is to bring 2 new ships and the concept of "subfactions" to current players of X-Wing. Those ships (the T-70 X-Wing and the TIE f/o Fighter) bring some new and interesting options to the X-Wing miniatures game, including a new slot type. I'm still a bit wary of the T-70's place on the playing field (I think it should have a slightly lower squad point cost), but it looks to be a very slippery bugger. Time will tell. The TIE f/o Fighter is not a replacement for the TIE Fighter, and that's actually good news. It seems to have a slightly different role in a fleet, and to be well squad-point-costed to fill that role. Plus the new damage deck. Plus new copies of the standard movement templates (mine were starting to show their age...). And more dice. So: if you're a current player? Pick up at least one of these. If you're a curious potential new player? Pick up one of these, grab a friend and roll some dice. Say "pew pew pew" as you roll the dice. If you have fun with the game... welcome to the club. There's a whole lot more awesome stuff.

Always nice to see new additions to the game, especially a new core set. Not only are they a great value. (The ships alone at retail will set you back 45 dollars) but they have a great amount of upgrades.
