Contains the updated rules going forward in the game, a better damage deck, and the new ships. A good buy, although personally I wish the T-70 was in Poe's colors.

I held off buying the original core set when it first came out. With the release of this new core set, and the new movie coming out I could no longer hold back and gave into buying this game. So glad that I did. Not only is it fun to play, but the quality of the parts are very top notch. Not just the miniatures, but the cardboard tokens as well. I have been dealing with quite a few different games in the last few years that use cardboard bits and these are by far the highest quality I have seen so far. You cannot go wrong with this game even if you only buy the core and nothing else.

If you play X-Wing, you'll love this new set! A brand new damage deck, and upgrades on the ships make for interesting game play. This new set does feature the ships from the upcoming "Force Awakens" movie coming out this winter. And to make someone who is interested in this game aware, this is NOT a complete game. You get 3 ships, one for the Resistance (Rebels) faction, and two for the First Order (Empire) faction. You will have to buy other expansions to field different ships and pilots, but you get enough in this box to learn how to play.

This new core set presents some great new options. The new TIE/FO have better durability and the T-70 is more maneuverable. The Ties are the same ship design with a new paint scheme, but the T-70 is an entirely new model. As others mentioned, many organized events will be requiring the new damage deck from this set soon. If you are just starting out, I recommend picking up one of these as well as the original core set - you'll want the extra dice anyway, and an extra set of templates is good to have also.

In anticipation of the new Star Wars film, FFG has released the T-70 and Tie/FO fighters in a new core set. This product is both a recommended and yet somewhat awkwardly required purchase for the game, as the new damage deck in the game will be required by the end of this year if not the beginning of next year. Still despite this issue the this is a great way to build you anticipation up for the film, as well as get three new exciting ships with new options. Including a new Tech upgrade, and powered up maneuver dials allowing these ships more options than their original core set predecessors.

X-Wing is a great game overall, though the power creep is a bit disheartening for us casual players. This "2nd Edition" of the core game does have several improvements over the original. First, the components (particularly the ships) are a notch up in terms of quality (the painting is crisper and the pieces go together more easily). Secondly, they took a page out of their Armada game and included a useful reference booklet to help keep all the rules straight. Finally, the core set of pilots (and ship stats) are upped a bit, and give a little more survivability (for the Imperials) and maneuverability (for the rebels)--both welcome additions. The $40 price tag is not terrible, though for only getting 3 ships for a 2-1 game is a bit disappointing. Miniature Market's price seems more on the nose, and is appreciated!
