My 8yr old son put this together by himself before I knew he was working on it.He loves it. It was packaged perfectly to send as a gift.

The box for this Lego City train set is quite large, but it only has 764 pieces, and the age rating is 7+. There are a lot of large pieces, and the design is not complex. Completed, it’s a cool design and of an impressive size. This set comes with 6 minifigs in the traditional Lego style as opposed to what you might see in the Lego Friends line. This seems like it could be at home mixed with the Lego Friends line, though. The minifigs have a good amount of diversity as far as gender goes, and there’s even a wheelchair, which is cool.I have no previous experience with Lego train sets, so I don’t know how this might be different than previous ones. I also don’t have any previous experience with Lego sets that involve powered elements. In fact, I didn’t grow up with Legos at all. I’ve only been getting sets as my daughter has gotten interested in building things. To me, this is a very indulgent set. There’s not that much building, so it’s pretty easy to put together. While it looks cool, I would think that you’d have to really be into Lego trains or just have money to burn to want to spend $190 on a train that goes around a track. Granted, if you’re really into the Lego hobby, you might already have tracks that you could add to this to make the run a lot more interesting than just going around in an oval. So, as far as recommending this, I think it depends on what you want out of your Legos. I think there is a segment of the population that is really into Legos, so they likely already know that they would or would not buy this set, and I don’t think any review is going to affect that beyond a really well-informed review from someone with Lego train experience if there are specific details you’re concerned about or want to know how this is different from previous sets or whether you should get this train or a different train if you can’t afford to get all of the trains. If your budget is limited and you just want to get a cool set to put together, this might not be for you. If the part you like is the challenge of a large build, this isn’t going to really do it. This set is more about building a story. So while this set is cool, I think it’s best for kids that just want to play around with a train that will move around a track or adults who have a display and could use these elements to fill it out. In addition, even for Lego, this set is expensive for the piece count, so I imagine a lot of the value comes from the train actually moving around the track. If you’re not really that interested in that part of this set, I don’t think you’ll get your money’s worth. And something definitely worth considering is that this requires 10 AAA batteries (not included). You’re probably going to want to invest in some rechargeables for this.

This Lego set is lots of fun. We have another interactive Lego set that did not live up to the expectations but that is not the case with this one. Building the train was lots of fun and not too challenging for my 7 year old. He loves using the remote to control it-- it goes quite fast! The train station is a cute touch too. We plan to buy more tracks so the train can travel beyond the circular path. We had no issues with this set but as some other reviews mentioned, if you are deciding between this and the freight train I would go with that one. It's a bit more interactive and has about 400 more pieces.

Normal lego train nothing special. Set is fine but wouldn’t spend this much on a set with so little included again.

My 6 and 7 year old love this train. It was a relatively fast build for the price, about 3.5 hours. It is so fun and fast, and is a lot of fun to set up with and play with the Lego Station too. The only thing is, we like the freight train better. The freight train is more interactive and has more variety in the train cars. If you are trying to decide between the two, I’d recommend that one!

My children have been having a lot of fun playing with this Lego city express passenger train. For the tracks if you don’t want them to come apart easily, they actually don’t fall apart easily, but you can also add a Lego to where they connect and they will hold really well. The only problem is I really wish this came with a larger track. I’ve already checked online and they do sell individual just tracks so I have purchased that and it was reasonably priced. The left side of the remote controls the lights on the engine and the right side controls the speed you can go forwards or backwards with the train. My children have loved trains for many years and this is a great addition to their love of trains.

This really is a cool Lego train. Is it worth the price?? Hmmm..... depends on if you ask me or my kids. I think it's a little expensive for what you get, however, it does work nicely with another train set they have. The lights were probably their favorite feature, but WOW that's a lot of batteries! (10!) Overall, my kids have had a lot of fun with it, I'm just a bit iffy on the price point.

I ordered this Lego train set, not sure who would want to build it. I have 2 kids in their early 20's - one in college, the other one who just started his first full time job. Then there's my husband and me, both in our mid 50's. It sat around for over a week without being touched. Then one Saturday night, my husband asked me if I would like to build it with him. I've never been much of a Lego builder. Both kids were and my husband was when he was a kid. I think my brother used to have some and I would build houses with them. Well, it took 2 nights to complete it, but we successfully built this train set. Wow! This is quite the Lego set! The instructions were easy to follow, as we expected with Lego. There were some extra pieces if needed. The train power source required a total of 10 AAA batteries. My husband, who is a tech guy and loves all things nerdy/geeky really enjoyed playing with this train. It works really well. You can control and adjust the speed. We did learn that if you go at maximum speed, it jumps the track. There are working headlights. It's really a cool set! We had a lot of fun with it. We're still having fun with it because it's still set up on the table.
