LEGO City Express Passenger Train Reviews

4.7 Rating 26 Reviews
Positives:-The overall length of the train is really impressive in person. It feels like you are getting a sizeable train. You get one engine and two passenger cars.-Of the passenger cars 3/4 of the space is actually useable passenger seating areas.-The minifigure selection is nice, and with non-gender specific torsos, you can swap and make a lot of combinations.-The removable battery compartment design and the extra button extension built on top of the power functions pack tickled me.-Except for cramming in the wiring for the power pack, the whole build experience was easy and despite having repetitive elements, didn't end up feeling repetitive.Negatives:-While having one passenger car be wheelchair accessible is neat in theory, the drop off down into the car after passing through the doors doesn't sell that. In fact both cars could use an extra two plates of height inside to raise the floor. There are also gaps in the bottom of each car where small pieces from the inside could fall down and land in the wheels. I'm not going to say you'll derail your train, but it does break the immersion/realism.-With no suggestion of stairs inside either car, it looks silly, and you would have to imagine your minifigures doing a pull up to get to the snack counter or seating areas.-You get less track and a lot less play experience than the Freight Train which is also available at a similar price.-The inclusion of headlights is nice, but it leaves a bundle of wire visible inside the engine car. You'll see them behind your engineer who only has enough space to sit.Overall:If you are just seeking a Lego Train, I'd go with the Freight Train set. That is an easy recommendation over this one. I would only recommend this set if you really want a Passenger Train and have the cash to burn. Though, once it is built, and if you can ignore the interior issues or use your own pieces to improve them, it is, overall, a nice looking train.

This is my second train set from Lego...I certainly am a sucker for all things Lego and this one does not disappoint.
