“My son loved this. Easy to build and make custom tracks. He combined this set with his city that he built. We might even use this around our Christmas tree this year. All pieces are durable, and name brand as expected.”
“True to LEGO form, this is an amazing set that includes an electric train and two passenger cars.Pros:-Full loop of track-Multiple mini figures (5)-Electric functionality, lights (battery)-Modern train design with a plethora of details-Cars with multiple functions and excellent details (bike rack, handicapped access, food service)Cons:-Only an oval loop of tracks-Only a bench and a tree on the track loop”
“This lego set is fantastic! This train set not only allows you to build the train, but the train is controlled by either a remote control or the Powered Up app by Lego. It takes 10 AA batteries, but it runs quite smoothly when built. I love the little details like the train station stop, as well as the little engineer running the train. This set was easy to build and a lot more fun after completion.”
“Adding this kit to the Freight train and train station sets makes for an absolutely awesome train collection. The interop of the track, and the inclusion of the Powered Up unit is great for building a really nice train collection. It seems like Lego is trying to release more and more train kits, which feeds my granddaughter's recently acquired love of trains. We're building them all together and trying to figure out how to fit them all on a table so we can run them all at the same time. The passenger train is able to hold a lot of mini-figs, which adds to the fun of playtime. Storm Troopers and Spiderman get to ride the train! Highly recommended set.”
“The list prices for this Lego is $189. My son built it out in a few hours over two days. That is a major consideration. You are getting reuse because you can set up the train as part of larger displays, especially if you get more tracks. But ultimately you are spending close to 200$ on a 700 piece Lego that was not a challenging build. The Lego itself is very cool. The LED lights are bright. The remote works quite well. The train goes pretty fast. We did not use the APP but you can, we stuck to the remote and it is fun to operate. You get some tracks for a small circle and you get some nice mini figs. The train really works well and will be even better with more tracks or as part of some kind of larger city set up. We enjoyed how the instructions have added what looks like a progress bar in the instruction book to see how far you are along, that was a nice touch. But for this amount of money, the build was not very complicated and not a lot of pieces. At this price we would rather do a more complicated Architecture build of a landmark. This is a very fun cool Lego, but just very expensive. We understand in general Lego is not a cheap hobby and even small Lego sets are very expensive, however, my son enjoys more complex builds and while this train is quite fun, it was a bit too easy.”
“My 7 year old son is really into Legos and I knew he’d love this train set. To my surprise, he was able to actually put it together by himself except for a little help on a couple of the steps. He worked on it for a couple of days on and off so I can’t really say how long it took him total. This train requires 10 AAA batteries (not included). My son in law mentioned it may be a good idea to purchase rechargeable batteries for this which is a great idea. I honestly had no idea where the batteries even went, the directions didn’t say and nothing on the box mentioned it. We eventually realized where they went and you will need a small screwdriver to install them. The lights on the train can be adjusted (dim-bright). It’s actually pretty quiet and not extremely loud. Because of the speed of the train, the track does move & slide a little on my hardwood floors. The remote in my opinion is somewhat difficult to figure out. Also, the remote doesn’t automatically shut itself off, another reason I deducted a star. My son left it on for an hour or so before noticing. My son said that you need to hold down the green button and it will blink before shutting itself off.I was quite surprised at how fast this train moves. I would definitely recommend purchasing more track for it because it does get somewhat boring watching it go around in a oval.I think I expected more with this train set. It does include some accessories. My honest opinion is although this is fun to build & play with, it’s not worth the asking price of $189 (at the time of this review).”
“Have to say I have been wanting a Lego train for a while now. My daughter was train obsessed when younger, so we bonded over that. Not to mention we do Lego window displays for Halloween and Christmas. We have trains, but they weren’t Lego.So I may have gone a bit overboard when the new trains dropped, I ordered this, the freight train, and the train station. Train station will be here tomorrow though.Out of the two trains, this one is my favorite. The green looks great, and the build is painless. Nothing too complicated for a build with your kiddos. Each train car had some unique aspects to it, like the working bicycle racks in the trolley, and the espresso machine in the dining car. There is an instruction booklet for each train car and the Electric car and charger. So up to 4 people can build different parts of the build together, as each manual also tells you which bag numbers you need. I use Lego.com to download the instructions, and for this set the digital copies looked great. We tried controlling this train with both the iPhone app and the controller, and I must say it was easier to control with the RC controller, but there are only sound effects if you use the app. My 5 yo daughter preferred the controller as well, as you could better control the train speed. We did hook the two trains together, and that was quite entertaining. Unfortunately I couldn’t get video with my phone while using the app to control one of the trains.Take note, these things take a lot of batteries. 10 AAAs per train with remote, and we didn’t have enough for one of the two train remotes.Overall, fun, nice looking build, for one or more. Also a great base for custom trains down the road!”
“I won't ever get enough LEGO trains. Aesthetically, this one is probably the best so far. A huge improvement when we are taking a look at the sides of the wagons, for there are DOORS! Finally, our minifigs can board the train. I really like the long pointed nose of the train, for this train really is a TGV, "Train Haute Vitesse" in French. The TGV can travel to a speed of over 200mph on straight tracks, which explains the need for a long pointed aerodynamic nose. While I am not really a fan of the new app with nowadays motorized systems in LEGO sets, this app is way more functional and simpler than its previous version. Many people on social networks were mocking the colors. Personally, I like this vivid bamboo green color, it's refreshing, it's also new for LEGO trains if I am not mistaken.”
