“Very happy with the over all detail and sturdiness of the Fletcher compared to other RC ships I've had in the past. The size is certainly impressive! Mine came well packaged and undamaged. It took about 3 hours of assembly but it was straight forward despite the poor instructions. I charged the battery and it runs and steers! Now just some final detail and ballasting and the 4 month wait til Spring!”

“My Destroyer was delivered on December 7th, and unboxed, had very few broken pieces which were easily glued back into place. one thing that was missing was one 5 inch deck gun. Contacted Motion RC about the issue and all I can say about the customer Service is that they are by Far the Best group I have ever talked with. As for the the Destroyer, the details are awesome. The rigging was easy to figure out, and the three compartments allow easy access to all equipment. On the water she can cruise either slow or move faster than a scale speed, plenty of rudder control and maneuvers very well. would work great in a large pool or a lake. The Destroyer looks like it can take on a bit more scale features which I will be adding as time goes on. Ohh and make sure you have room to both show it off and transport to and from where you run it, because it is a really Big boat.”

“I can’t recommend buying any Bancroft ship models. I’ve bought two destroyers and a Coast Guard Cutter and now the Destroyer. This is the second one with significant damage from shipping. The first time it was Motions caught for putting in addition items this time it was the strapping used to secured it allowed movement that bike off most of the models ladders and put a big chip in the bow that I need to fill and touch up. I can fix these issues but for $1000 you shouldn’t have theses problems over and over.”

“I have both the Bancroft Fletcher and the Arleigh Burke Class Destroyers and a very understanding wife! Before I review the Fletcher (soon to be the USS Bush DD-529) I have to give a big thanks to Motion RC for their customer service. My first Fletcher that I got from them had a fair bit of damage to it despite good packaging. It was obvious somewhere between China and San Diego, CA the box was dropped on it’s end causing a smashed bow and numerous broken and some missing parts. Motion RC paid for the return of the ship and sent me another. Just a few parts broken off on the second one, but that was to be expected and those parts were easily glued back on. So again, thank you Motion RC! As for the ship itself, it is very nice and built very rugged from what I can tell. Beautiful fiberglass hull and paint job! The Arleigh Burke is very delicate in regards to all the small detailed parts and the deck stanchions. It’s beautiful, but you have to be extremely careful in handling it not to bend parts or break something off. The Fletcher, not so. It’s bigger and parts are not as small and easily broken. Also, much easier to get your hands inside the ship to do work. My Fletcher needed 4.5 pounds of weight for ballast (the battery is part of that weight ballast. I use an Admiral 5000 mAh 2S battery) to get her sitting down to the black water line. It may take more or less for someone else’s Fletcher. The universal joints or couplers that connect the motor shafts to the prop shafts were too big at both ends for the shafts and you just simply can’t run the boat with these couplers. They would just wobble around on the ends of the shafts and would quickly become useless altogether. Also had problems with the couplers on my Arleigh Burke (one was broken along with a prop right out of the box). You can’t get replacement couplers for these boats, but then you wouldn’t want to replace them with the stock couplers anyhow since they’re oversized for the shafts. The fit was okay on the Arleigh Burke, but again, one was broken and they are not listed as replacement parts at Motion RC. So, I got replacement couplers from www.harbormodels.com in California. They are a bit pricey, but are very good couplers (see picture, it’ the red one vs. the black Bancroft one) and I use them on a couple of other RC boats that I have. For the Fletcher you’ll want to get the 3.2mm to 4mm couplers. Speaking of replacement parts, Motion RC carries only a very limited selection of replacement parts for the Bancroft boats, which is a downside and should be corrected. But other than the coupler issues, the boat for the most part is fine. I replaced the Bancroft esc and put in a marine esc for each motor for better motor response and going to neutral motor braking. I also put in another receiver and use my higher end transmitter that gives me a lot more options for the ship. Bancroft used some magnets for holding down the stern access hatch, which was great! They should have done it with the other structures that come off for access to the ship. I’ll be adding magnets to them to hold them down securely. Bottom line, if you’re thinking about getting this ship, get it! It is big and transport may be an issue, so keep that in mind. But if you love Fletchers (think of the movie Greyhound with Tom Hanks), have a place to store it, and a way to transport it, you’ll be very happy with this RC ship!”
