“The FL 1600mm F4U-1 Corsair retracts are very poorly designed. On landings either the worm screw inside bends very easily, or the plastic housing cracks. The worm screw should be at least double the diameter of the current approximately 3mm diameter. The housing should be made of a tougher material. Anything less than a perfect landing can result in the retract failing. Although some of my landings have been less than stellar, most of the ones where the LG broke, were very good, even greasers, yet the gear collapsed.”

“Perfect fit. My old retracts lasted through a lot of cycles, but this new one only lasted about 10 cycles before the "screw" on the inside bent. I have purchased a new one again - hopefully the other one was a fluke.”

“These retracts are actually pretty good, however the pin that connects the retract and strut is very poorly designed. The pin itself is 5 mm with a 3 mm pin to rotate the retract in the middle of the 5mm pin. That means there is only 1 mm of material on each side of the pin. This has become a very weak link in the landing gear system. This pin has failed many times even on good Landings requiring an entire new retract because the pen is not available by itself. I'm working on redesigning a new PIN for the next time it fails”
