“My 11 year old son had an awesome time putting this kit together. He is very good at following direction though. We started this kit with a cheep soldering iron which worked against him.i have heard very good responce to helping those that ran into trouble with assembly of kits from this manufacturer. Very good customer service. I would recommend for a 12 to 15 range age group.. Paused and picked up the solder practice board kit and a Weller soldering iron with a 1/32: tip. After completing the practice kit he returned to this project.Likes that it had two stages of progress of completion so you can check your work allong the way. This helped to find any problems. This radio has become the show and tell item for the last week. His eyes lit up when the first voice can thru the speaker.”
“we got this and another elenco kit and, after hours of soldering and then re-soldering and then checking connections we couldn't get either working at all. My son was bitterly disappointed. I don't know what we are doing wrong or if its a problem with the kits. If you get this, be prepared for it to possibly not work the first time.”
“This is such an awesome set, perfect for a gift to anyone who loves little projects. Clear instructions and everything labeled!!!! I would recommend this to everyone. Clear sound too!”
“The kit is easy to build. The main intent is to give you practice in soldering while building a useful product like a radio rather than a blinking light. Don;t expect to learn much about radios and how they work. For the price I thought it was an excellent product.”
“and decided I would attempt my first radio assembly board. I haven't had the time to assemble it as of yet but hope to get around to it this fall when the snow keeps me indoors for long periods of time. Thanks again”
“When I assembled this all by myself I felt like I could solder anything in the world. IT'S NOT EVEN THAT COMPLICATED! So don't be discouraged! It's really great for learning how exactly circuits work and plus you can listen to the Grande Ole Opry like your mam and paps did back in the 30's. Set down with a pipe, some high quality tobacco, with a scotch glass full of your favorite liquor. Make sure your soldering iron is off and your at least 30 feet away from it. Set back and relax on a Saturday night and sing along to You are my Sunshine. This could end up being an all-nighter but you know what? That's okay because you assembled this all by yourself or with an adult if your a young whipper snapper. In all seriousness though I'd recommend, no second thoughts involved the radio actually works too and I live in a very backwoods town in Georgia so that tells you that much.”
