I used to build radios and other radio type kits all the time when I was 50 years younger so this brought me back to that time. Very well designed unit and great instruction manual.

This was the second soldering project for my 9 y.o. daughter, after we assembled Elenco Escape Robot Kit (that was a real hit!). This time I let my daughter do most of the soldering (under my supervision and explanation). I had a silver based soldering paste (in a syringe) that made the work much easier (less temperature required, better and cleaner contact created). First we did have a minor problem with a loose socket, so the sound was intermittent, and then disappeared completely. However after I contacted Elenco support they were very responsive and of a great help, and sent us a new socket and IC at no charge. They even suggested we could ship the radio to them so they could fix the problem and ship it back (again, at no cost for us). So now the radio is working perfectly and the sound is very clear (we did have to put the optional C* capacitor). We now are working on making a transparent plexiglass case. I would definitely buy more educational products from Elenco.

I was very happy with this purchase. Its exactly what it says it should be and does what it should. No frills, no gimmicks and no bait and switch. Just a good solid product.

I always wanted to make a radio. This kit will let me do it. I haven't built it yet as I'm waiting for soldering supplies to arrive from another source. Sometimes you look at the price, and sometimes you look at the time it will take to get it. In this instance the kit got here first, but the rest of what I need was way less expensive from a slower source. These are the trade offs we have to make I guess. But, I am so looking forward to putting this thing together, what fun! Making an FM radio!.

Although the description states that this is wonderful for a beginner, it is very hard to follow and the instructions leave a LOT to be desired. Only purchase if you have a strong understanding of soldering.

It was a fun project. After it was complete it took me a while to get a channel in. Its a fun educational project. Its not just for kids either. I'm 27 years old and I have alot of fun with stuff like this

I bought this as a present for my 10 year old grandson, It is a nice design with easy to follow instructions, however the PC Board is of terrible quality and the lands peel off from the substrate. This is a problem specially for beguiners who may take a bit longer to solder. This sort of product is more likely to discourage a child as his chances of success do not depend on his skill but on the badly implemented product.
