“The qualitiy of the retract is very low because the quality of the material inside is too soft. 20 normal landings and the retract breaks quickly. So it happened to my friend and me.”

“The Gear can only be used if swinging backwards when retracting. Only this way It has a proper, stable stopper. In the opposite direction the plastic Housing may brake while landing due to landing shock.”

“The black plastic case of the nose retract had broken on my L-39 due to flying off a rough grass field (OK, maybe a couple landings could have been better too). I should have installed a wood plate behind the nose gear strut but hadn't and now needed a replacement retract. I ordered the unit (really great price) and it arrived a couple of days later.Installation was quite easy. The only issue was that the retract fitted to the L-39 has a particularly long servo cable and this replacement unit has a shorter cable which only reaches to just shy of the aft edge of the battery mounting board. A servo extension cable solved the problem. I temporarily removed the mounting board, Dremel'd a shallow cavity in the exposed foam to accommodate the connector at the end of the cable, reinstalled the battery mounting board and plugged the extension cable into the blue box. Total time for the replacement was about 15 minutes + another 15 minutes to make a small plate behind the strut and glue it in place.”

“I have had 2 nose gear housings crack, which while allowing the nose gear to function, so not take the weight of the airplane during landing. The result is a collapsing nose gear which will cause significant runway rash on the nose of the fuselage. I have seen broken trunions but this is my first experience with the housing cracking. It is unrepairable. The plastic seems to be very brittle.”
