“Looking around for an 80mm jet the Freewing F5 (while an older kit) looked like a good buy in todays market so I pushed the buy button. The plane arrived earlier than predicted and packed very well to prevent damage in shipping. Both things I have come to expect from Motion RC. The unboxing took me a week or so due to other construction commitments for fellow RC'ers and a few stray projects of my own. Upon opening the box I found the contents well protected and there were no missing parts. I did however encounter problems with the main landing gear mounts. On this plane installing the main gear and mounts into the wings is left up to the builder. Both landing gear mounts were cracked where the screws mount the retracts to the plastic gear mounts. A quick call to Motion resulted in a service Ticket being created. I filled this out along with pictures of the damage and Motion shipped these out promptly at no charge to me. Great job MRC!The assembly manual covers the construction process very well and is easy to understand. I did decide to solder extension wires on the main retracts to avoid having to use a servo extension and fit that connection into the grove already supplied on the underside of the fuse. The main gear got Dubro Super Light 2 wheels that fit into the existing wheel wells. I used one of the main wheels removed to put on the nose gear with only a bit of tire being removed for clearance. Nose gear door was attached to the fuse and opened up to allow nose gear to extend and retract without this door opening in the wind. I also added an extra plywood battery tray that extends into the fuse and provides additional support to the nose section that is glued to the fuse. Simple and easy to do and added very little weight. I also chose to print my own exhaust nozzles in black and add removable strobe lights to the plane. Our flying site is surrounded by trees and I thought maybe the Camo paint job on this plane might work to well for my eyes! A 614 gram 4 amp 6s battery balances this plane with the batt sitting in the middle of the battery tray,This kit is beautifully painted in Camo and I chose to protect that even more with a coat of Satin Polyurethane water based. I did notice on this kit maybe the age of the production tooling is starting to show a bit from flashing and a slight mismatch on parts. Thats about the only negative I could find on this fine jet from Freewing. The F5 is a solid buy at this price point and I am happy with my purchase. Maiden most likely will not happen until spring as nasty weather has set in.”

“The freewing f5 high performance 80mm edf with 9 blade 1920kv inrunner is an absolute beast. So far so good got 7 flights on her and shes a sweetheart. Easy to get in the air and land. She will slow down plenty without stalling for sweet landings. The sound of the 80mm edf is very surprising. Sounding very realistic and powerfull. She likes full flaps early on landing approach and low rates. The rates are aggressive on high from the factory. I'm right in the middle of the factory CG and shes nice, flares perfectly. The f5 smokes almost any of my other planes and jets at top speed!! Get this edf jet and you will be in love. Also shes very well made with the highest quality paint and alligator free foam finish. I am most pleased with this freewing jet and do not regret the purchase.”

“I got my first few flights on this plane last weekend. The maiden was great, needed some trimming. I was amazed with how fast it was, my 50C 4000mah pack was really warm when I landed, without trying I hit 206kph on my first flight. If you're not careful it will lose altitude quickly in a turn, once you're used to it, it is not a problem. Landing was easy, needs a good length runway, but overall was really fun to fly.”
