“This plane is fantastic in the air and on the ground. The speed range is unbelievable- really fast, but slows nicely for landing with no wing drop at all. It does get small in a hurry at full throttle. There was one small problem with the kit. The guys in China forgot to put a screw in the output arm on one of the elevator servos, fortunately the arm came off as I was connecting the pushrods. To get to the servo I had to cut a small section of foam out to put in a screw, then repair it with foam safe CA. Can't see the repair. The video from Motion R/C helped me figure out how to set up the gyro and was of great benefit. In conclusion, this plane is a real winner and I highly recommend it to guys with the need for speed. kwagsmd@yahoo.com”
“Rare 5 star rating from me. Quality construction, well engineered, incredibly stable in flight and on the ground! Fast enough to be fun and can fly slow enough for consistent, good landings. Needs a fair amount of rudder in tighter turns to bring the long nose around. Other than that, I don't know of a better value for the price! With a face only a Russian mother can love, it's unique looks get plenty of attention at the field! Don't put it off any longer. Dasvidaniya.”
“Build : Had to reposition two servo arms to get even travel(have to trim some foam away or drill a hole in line with arm screw). Had to put push rods in middle holes of servo arms instead of innermost holes specified in manual (only way i could get control throws to spec.) Had to remove cheater intake grate (easy to do) to make running wires and installing clear wire pocket covers easier (supplied glue works very well to secure clear covers and cheater grate). Had an elevator servo horn pushed to far into foam. This changed the geometry between the two. Had to move ball link on unaffected elevator in a hole. Rest of build easy and uneventful. Taxi test : Main wheel hub failed on taxi test (wheel hub stuck or got hot and melted into wheel. Rotated freely during build.) OIL WHEELS REGULARLY. Emailed motion sunday about failure, monday morning motion responded, wendsday had replacment part. YOU CANT BEAT MOTION CUSTOMER SERVICE. Maiden : 265 mm cg. , admiral 4000ma 40c, throws per manual, a3l gyro mounted where blue junction box was, no flap/elev mix,3min on timer. Half flaps on takeoff from asphalt. 200ft (ish) and it took to the sky. Looks good taxiing, looks awsome in the air. Classic like its on rails with or without gyro. Easy to fly. Broad flight envelope. Flys at just above half throttle, still fast. Sounds like a jet. Landings are easy, glides well. Shallow slow approach, cut throttle 10ft off the deck, pull some elevator just off the runway ,let it settle in. Not a scale landing but it can really land short (50ft). Landing gear does a fantastic job of absorbing less than soft touchdowns(first landing was hard enough to dislodge both drop tanks). Barely had 3min of flight time with 4000ma. (dead stick landing on third flight, eight flights so far) . Will be flying with 5000ma's soon. Flies a lot like my fw 70mm yak130. If you can fly the yak,the mig is no problem. Really stunning in the air. You need one.”
“Now have 10 flights so ready for a short review. 1st and foremost, the manuals published control throws might be good when coupled to a gyro, but are WAY too much and made for a very interesting maiden flight. As a reference, mine is now flying well with 12 mm travel on the ailerons and 20 mm on the elevator. 40 % expo on both (DX18)Other than that, I'm liking this one more with each flight. It looks even better in person than it does in the photos and gets compliments at the field for how sweet it looks and flies. (after getting past the 1st day's pucker power flights with too much throw in the controls) The Mig 21 is fast and has as much (or more) vertical than the Stinger 90. With reduced throws it flies on rails after you learn it's quirks. It does have a tendency to tuck in the turns so make them with some altitude until you feel it out. It slows down well with no bad habits. Nose high (alpha) flight at slow speed is predictable. No bad habits when slowing down, but again feel it out at altitude. That's about it from the pilot's point of viewFrom the builder's side, I spent about 5 hours building mine so the 1 hour plus listed here is pretty accurate. I had about a plus 4 ;) and included radio set up and setting CG. The manual is pretty clear and easy to follow. For future purchasers of this one, your biggest complaints will probably be waiting for them to come back into stock.”
