“I've enjoyed several flights with this amazing model, but sadly, those days have come to an end. I upgraded my radio system this past Spring to the Spektrum iX12 so that I could fly my F-14 in a more scale-like fashion using nine channels instead of the stock seven. Apparently the transmitter has a defect in it's software that will not properly save the trim settings of a model after switching from model to model. I took my F-14 up for a flight, and then flew a different model. The next time i went to fly my beautiful Tomcat, she was out of control upon takeoff, rolling heavily to the right and nosing up. I made every effort to recover, but she rolled over and dove into the ground. When looked down at my radio, I noticed that the elevator and aileron trims had been reset to zero. Technology is nice when it works, but never assume that it does. If you own an iX12, add the trim settings to your pre-flight checklist.Scott M.”

“I've had my F14 for over a year now, and, for $500, you get A LOT of airplane, Its very larger, very fast, and very scale. Overall I give this plane an A-/B++. It is indeed very nice & leaves little to be desired. But as no one else seems to be talking about it, let me itemize the "to be desired" portions, primarily for grass-surface runways. If you plan to fly the plane (a) off a hard/paved surface (b) in a tame manner with a (c) 9-channel transmitter or greater... this review does not really apply to you.The Achilles Heel of this otherwise nice jet is THE NOSE GEAR. There's alot of metal up there, except in the primary shock-absorbing section for grass fields = the strut. Its made of plastic, the entire assebly. The clip, the strut, and the slider....all plastic. I have broken this piece 4 times & finally resorted to making metal-rod-inserts for it. If you want to perpetually (not sometimes) fly off grass, you might be better off with a different EDF unless you want to custom create a non-plastic strut. The second item is for 8-channel users & below. The fashion that FMS mixed the controls, the ailerons are still active in swept-mode, which creates wobbling during swept-wing operations. At 95mph, wobbling is scary as ****. & cannot be re-done without a 9-channel radio & some custom mixing. I resolved this with a $35 gyro but it will definitely need to be addressed. This is not a swept-mode capable EDF out-of-the-box. For those of you who found it to be, you are among the fortunate minority.Lastly, you are going to have a **** of a time getting the spare parts you need (I recommend buying a spare set of EVERYTHING nose gear related) as FMS really seems to keep there customers starving in this respect with this plane. It may be because we crash them so often, or everyone is having the same Nose Gear parts issues I'm having...I would order spare parts along with you initial purchase. Its may be week or months before you get what you need.Other than that, its been a fun, albeit scary & occasionally irritating experience learning to fly her. Not for the faint-of-heart or the C+ RC pilot who does not quite have the Angle of Attack concept down. This jet rides an certain AoA through every maneuver. Its no Avanti to be sure.”

“I always loved the f14 since I was a kid building model kits from revell models. Now I have one I can actually fly and not have to make jet sounds myself. This thing is big. Goes together easy with just a few screws and nuts. I did not use the stock mixing board as I wanted full length flaps and tailerons only when the wings are swept. My first flight was just a few days ago and it was like flying a trainer. I didn’t sweep wings yet as I wanted to trim it out and get a feel for this beautiful bird. If you are debating on getting this, Do it. It’s time to buzz the tower.”

“There's just nothing like this F-14. Anytime I fly it anywhere, everyone stops and watches the whole flight. I grew up watching Top Gun, so of course I had to repaint mine to recreate Maverick and Goose's Tomcat (with help from Callie Graphics). This plane is the dream. You MUST have respect for the complexity, weight, and speed of this jet if you want to be able to enjoy it. This is NOT one for beginners. My hands still shake a bit after each successful landing of this plane. She lifts gracefully from the ground in about 200' of runway with half flaps; with no-flap takeoffs, expect to need 300' or more. I put the time in to program full-span flaps in pursuit of the slowest possible ground speed for landing. I highly recommend viewing RCGeek's YouTube video about setup if you plan to do the same. With calm winds it takes every bit of 250' of ground roll after touchdown to get her stopped, but I may be guilty of coming in a little hot to avoid stalls on short final (not to say the jet is prone to them, but with full-span flaps, there's not much of a warning wag before a wing would drop). With the wings out, this plane is very docile and predictable. It's a little slippery on the roll access with wings back. I've got an Eagle gyro on the way to help with that. Freewing did a fantastic job of achieving wing sweep without it negatively affecting the CG! That being said, CG is EVERYTHING with this plane. High speed low passes are awe-inspiring with the wings back! I fly pairs of 6S 4500 45C and 6S 5000 50C packs in mine, getting 3:10 and 3:30 flight times with 33% battery left consistently - you'll be VERY glad to have enough battery for a go-around or three!! On a side note: I recommend putting Nerf football whistles just behind the fan shrouds to produce a surprisingly realistic turbine sound. It'll really add some cool factor! In summary, if you absolutely love the F-14 and approach this plane with respect for its flight characteristics and put great care into the workload involved in dialing it in, you'll be greatly rewarded with flying the jet of your dreams!THANK YOU Freewing and MotionRC for making this dream a reality for so many of us!!! You guys are the best!!”
