Lack of main landing gear doors is unacceptable. General fit is a bit rough. Need to customize/improve upon factory landing gear mounts; which rely upon foam features heavily for support is unacceptable.

I have been very intrigued by this model ever since I discovered it. I've bee watching all the YouTube videos I could find. I finally ordered the model and received it in good condition. I got it assembled and made a maiden flight that was uneventful until I landed. Turns out I had no nose wheel steering. With all my attention on the rear of the airplane, setting up control throws and watching the wings sweep (so cool!), I hadn't noticed the nose wheel steering wasn't working. I did some testing to figure out if the problem was with the servo or with the distribution board that powers all the servos and lighting on the plane. Long story short, it turned out I had a problem with both. I don't know if the servo was faulty and cooked the board or the board was faulty and cooked the servo. I contacted Motion RC with a full description of the symptoms and what I had done to try to diagnose things and got a very quick response Tim Dunn. Ultimately, he sent me a replacement board and servo which I have now installed and everything is working great. I can't say enough about the quality of Motion RC's product support. Tim was very helpful and prompt in getting the new parts out to me. Kudos all around!

I have not put her together yet, but I was very impressed with the model as I un-packaged the jet. Just wondering, what is the based color of the F14 to buy additional paint colors?

Initial Impressions: Got the F-14 on Christmas day and was expecting to have the build/setup take multiple days as this model tends to get a stereotype to be difficult to set up, which depending on how knowledgeable you are it still can be. After watching many videos on the internet on the F-14, I was prepared and knew exactly what I needed to do when I got it out of the box. When unboxing the model, there wasn't a single dent or mark, which is normal for MotionRc. I laid all the parts out and flipped through the manual to double-check I had everything, which I did. So I began the build. Again I was expecting this to take multiple days and be challenging so I took my time. First I glued on the nose, which fit decently, however, I needed to use some painter's tape to keep it in the perfect position. After the nose dried I installed the verticles and horizontals, which were a breeze. Next, I decided to set up my receiver, which I opted for the Admiral RX1000 10ch receiver and an Admiral satellite. As you probably know, the F-14 has a control board that all the control surfaces run through, this makes setup a lot easier, however, there is one issue with this. The issue is, when you sweep the wings, the ailerons will still be able to move, causing a non-linear response that makes the plane fly poorly. To avoid this you have to run the ailerons directly into the receiver into a separate channel. I went the extra mile and had each individual aileron on a separate channel so I could mix in full-span flaps. This meant I was using a total of 9ch, but all 10ch on the receiver was taken due to the UBEC. Once I was all bound up, I got the wings installed, which again was a breeze. The hardest part of the build was just wire management, which still was not that bad. Once the build was complete, I added my shelf liner, finished radio setup, and checked the CG, and in one day had her all ready to fly. Yes, the F-14 takes more work than normal, but it is an older model. By no means is this difficult or too time-consuming as people make it seem to be.First Flights:The book CG was spot on. I ran two HRB 6s 4000mah batteries basically in the middle of the trey and it was spot on. If anything I would move the batteries a little farther forward. Like I said in the previous section, I wired the ailerons in two separate channels to run full-span flaps and be able to disable them when the wings retract. (wings out) 80% aileron, 90% elevator, 100% rudder, all with 15% expo. After my first flight, all of these rates were good, except the aileron, which I took down to 70% and 25% expo. (wings in) 60% aileron with 25 % expo with same elevator and rudder rates. I am not a big expo guy, but the ailerons definitely benefited from some expo. Got her trimmed after a pass or two and after that, she was flying amazing. With wings out she flies like a trainer, wings in she still fly great, just watch your speed. The landing couldn't be easier. Just glide her in, get about 1-3 feet above the ground and play with the power to butter the mains on the runway. With or without full-span flaps, there was not a big difference other than the scale look. With two 4000mah packs and a 3:00 timer, I was landing with about 50% in each battery, which is amazing especially for the old outrunner setup. You could easily expect 3:30-5:00 depending on how hard you fly. Pros:- Superscale- Flying characteristics- Customization opportunities- Flight time- Transporting (easy with wings in the retracted position)Cons: - Control board (due to not disabling ailerons with wings swept)- Play in elevatorsFinal Thoughts:Such an amazing plane and I can't think of a better bang for your buck when talking about a plane in this class. When looking at the $560 price, compared to the other planes from MotionRc and other companies that are around the same price, this F-14 is by far the most plane you get for the money. Flight time is great, super scale, easy to transport, and it's a freaking F-14!, what's there more to like??!! Go buy one!
