Freewing F-4 Phantom II "Ghost Grey" Ultra Performance 8S 90mm EDF Jet - PNP Reviews

4.7 Rating 27 Reviews
Der Unterscheid zur 6 S Version ist leider relativ gering. Die Startstrecke ist aber schon deutlich kürzer , im Flug ist kein größerer Unterschied.

Fantastic plane. Tons of power with 8S. I reinforced the nose gear with plywood.

I have 12 of these and they all fly very well. Have made many upgrades and liveries. I do like the 8s the most. Recently I purchase a set of formation lights and they really make the planes stand out in the crowd. Parts are very expensive when you consider the amount of foam you are paying for.

The servos seem like they are grinding. They do not operate smoothly. They 'work' but they don't return to center consistently, and they seem very 'ratchety'. I don't think the servos are defective, I just think the quality has dropped since I bought my first FW F-4 5 yrs ago. I am replacing all the servos with Hitec servos. For almost $600 this should not be necessary. I wish it came as "Grey Ghost". It actually comes as the Nightmares which I was aware of. Just extra work to customize it. The left wingtip came a little compressed on the trailing edge. Other than that everything is tight. The rest of the fitment is good. Went together easy. This is my 2nd FW Phantom. But my other one is 6s. There is definate power upgrade. All in all I am happy with the purchase. I just wish there was higher quality servos.

This is a big, heavy jet that really benefits from 8s. Based on reviews about control issues with flaps, all my flights so far have been without flaps. On short grass, the takeoff roll is longish and then the jet leaps off the runway. It flew great, really.. much better that my 80mm F-16s. It was easy to see and even easier with those big drop tanks on it. It was pretty fast but not remarkably so. Landing without flaps took some practice because it’s coming in fast as you might expect. No problems though, as the reverse thrust gets it stopped. Even with just a handful of flights, I can see that the gear will need attention soon. This heavy jet comes down hard if your landings aren’t greased and they won’t always be. I used two sets of batteries - a Zee 4s 6000 pair and an SMC 4s 6200 LIHV pair - positioned one and three quarters inches behind the front foam ledge. Balance was perfect there .. these packs weigh the same. I saw no real difference in the regular lipo versus the LIHV in this jet like I do in others like the Zeus. This jet takes up a lot of airspace quickly so plan ahead. It looks amazing and flies about like you’d expect for a warbird, maybe better. Not a first or second jet but manageable for a very experienced pilot.

This is my 3rd F4, the others are all 6S, one a Blue Angel and the other a "Key West" Sundowner. Love the boost in power and take-off of the 8S and flying it on the new SMC 8S HiV 5900 mah pack weighing 943 gr. My only complaint is that it comes with decals applied, so I had to paint/sand over those to turn it into the Jolly Rodgers livery, using Callie's graphics. Foam and finish are outstanding and it flies exceptionally well. I also redid the cockpit with the 3D printed parts and the 3D printed nozzles that I painted as if heat affected. Added a bit of extra yellow/black in places for visibility and applied 4 coats of clear gloss exterior spar urethane for a harder finish and protection. Also installed the RC Geek twin afterburners and lined the exhaust nozzles with aluminum AC foil tape for better reflection. Definitely one of my favorite EDF's, now with thrust reversing!
