“I fell in love with this jet on its maiden flight. Very little trimming was required. Docile, agile, quick, slow, forgiving - you can fly it any of these ways and have a very enjoyable flight - and as jets go it is very easy to land. On my second flight, however, she went in nose first and the suspected cause is failure of the elevator ball link on the right side closest to the servo. I know lots of people are getting lots of flights on the stock elevator control rod setup but, even with the higher torque servos that Motion provided the control rods and links need strengthening. On youtube, Just plane crazy has an excellent video on how to do this and I had planned to do so at a later date. I strongly recommend that you do this upgrade before flying the aircraft because it is an absolutely awesome flying airplane that all pilots will enjoy.”

“I had set her up by the book and the maiden was uneventful --- take offs are short and sweet with no bad tendency except for being a little nose heavy. 5 Clicks of up elevator and that solved the problem. The best part is that she can cruise at 1/2 throttle or below. I found the manual recommended throws for ailerons to be a bit twitchy. For my liking I will move the CG a little back, reduce the ailerons travel and increase the elevator travel for my next flight. Anyone who has flown a 90MM jet before will have no problems handling this jet. Motion RC and Freewing have hit a homerun with this one!”

“First the customer service / customer care regarding the Freewing MiG-29 product has been outstanding. The immediate attention given to the elevator servo issue demonstrates MotionRC's commitment to their customers. The large size of the model makes assembly extremely easy, however any moving around requires some care to avoid any foam dings. Locating the Center of Gravity (C/G) can be difficult when trying to handle such a large model. After much research on the HobbySquawk Forum, I placed my C/G approximately 3/8 behind the molded in C/G markings. I have been using both Admiral 4500 and 5000 mAh 6S lipo batteries mounted on the center and rearward battery positions. I used the forward bay for my main and satellite receivers. I also counter-balanced each of the full flying stabilizers with 24 grams of weight, which helped achieve the C/G positioning. During my initial test flights, I found it necessary to add approximately 13 mm of UP trim to achieve level flight. I hesitated to move the C/G further back to avoid the chance of an unstable condition. After some additional research, I added approximately 1/8 of reflex to the main wing aileron and flaps. This adjustment reduced the UP trim required to approximately 3 mm. Overall, the Freewing MiG-29 is a gentle giant. It flies well on 1/2 or 2/3rds throttle. The flight controls were set to the recommended deflections in the manual. The ailerons (AIL) are small but responsive. The full flying stabilizer (ELEV) deflection may seem to be alot for those new to this EDF, but for such a large model, using the recommended settings provides good responsiveness without being pitch sensitive.I have a relatively short runway of approximately 150', but with a constant 5 M/H breeze, take off at full power and mid-flap (FLP) occurs in about 100'. A positive 30 degree climb out is achieved as the model continues to accelerate before the under carriage is retracted. Throttle settings at 1/2 for a mostly uneventful cruising flight of 3 1/2 minutes. Touchdown at the 4 minute mark leaves approximately 3.75 to 3.80 of battery left. The model lands easily as much of the main fuselage provides additional lift. Mid FLP is selected and the under carriage is deployed during the downwind leg before turning onto final and engaging full flaps. The model slows down very quickly with full flaps. A little back pressure on the ELEV and throttle management to control the decent and the model slows for a nice nose high landing on the main undercarriage. I have stuck the landings pretty hard on more than one occasion and the robust under carriage handles it like a champ.Flight testing is on going, but the Freewing MiG-29 is a great flying model and MotionRC is truly committed to customer care and satisfaction.”

“I love the look of this plane. It flys great on a gyro and lands predictably. Beware the elevator! First I had to trim the elevator all the way up and still had trouble keeping it level even at the marked CG. I am more like 1 centimeter gap for the front edge below the molding line rather than 1 millimeter (see the instructions). Also, be careful not to deploy the landing gear when you are going slow and in a turn. With the drag of the big wheels turning sideways, and low speed, full elevator barely kept the plane from nosing into the ground. Too much drag, too little speed, and too little elevator response can be scary. Otherwise the looks are killer, the plane flys great, and no bouncing on the landing. When you let it sink it settles nicely for easy landings! Oh, I replaced the elevator servos with name brand high torque servos just to be safe!”

“Normally I start my reviews with a Pros and Cons. But, on this one I have not found any Cons. So thus I will be telling you about the Pros by-enlarge. The build was a snap. I took all of 30minutes for the assembly and about another 30 minutes for the radio setup. The finish is the best Freewing has done. I am including a picture of the finished product. I started with a MinWax Acrylic two coat system, then followed with the base coat and decals and then the Acrylic again. The assembly was so easy and straight forward that it would be hard to mess up. Plug in and let it go. Now for the maiden 10.6.20. Roll out was firm and smooth on the taxi way. Gave power and ran down the runway about 400 feet. I took a little longer because I want to see how it performed on takeoff. Little back pressure on the elevator and it took off like the real jets. Flew for about 2 minutes on first flight and it was just amazing. No heavy banks or loops at this time. The only trim needed was elevator. I took off a little nose heavy just to make sure. It came down with 3.83 across the board with a landing at about 2 15 minutes total. The landing was like a butterfly with sore feet. Could not as for a better flying airplane, it was so well behaved, even in slow down mode for landing. The top speed was most likely 95mph maybe 100mph. Not a real barn burner, but adequate. I am sure some will need more speed and I may, myself put in a JetFans and HET motors later. The second flight was just as good, this time I did some aromatic maneuvers and a high speed low pass. This thing is on rails and once I moved the battery back about 1/2” the nose heave went away and it maintained a flat and level on an inverted flight. I did not fly with the armament, but it should do well. I feel on a asphalt field runway it could use some brakes. It took a little long to slow down. I did land with 30% flaps on the second landing and about 10 degree alpha. Still with that it did go a little long. The CG mark on the wings are close but, I feel it could use a little rear movement of the weight distribution and get a better aerobatic airplane. The landing gear did very well and seem to be an excellent fit for the planes weight. The only thing I did to this plane other than changing the livery was adding a HobbyEagle 3 gyro. But, I have to say the plane does not need a gyro. Looking at other products out there the E-flite Su30 is about the same airplane and flies pretty much the same. This plane is about 3” longer and the wing span is as well. In summary I would say “BUY IT”.”
