“I am a long-time RC modeler and I purchased the Roban Airwolf 470 from Motion RC. Unfortunately my experience was extremely disappointing.
This helicopter was very expensive (around €1000) and it was actually a gift from my wife, so I was expecting a high level of quality and reliability. The model is advertised as having 6G stabilization and GPS, which should make it reasonably stable, especially during a first hover.
On the very first flight the helicopter lifted off but immediately showed abnormal behavior. It leaned strongly to one side (approximately 30 degrees) and felt extremely sensitive in the rudder / tail control. After a few seconds it suddenly started rotating rapidly around the vertical axis.
At that moment I released the sticks on the transmitter, expecting the stabilization system to recover the model, but the helicopter continued spinning uncontrollably and crashed. The model was completely destroyed in the impact.
In my opinion this behavior strongly suggests a malfunction of the flight controller or stabilization system. A helicopter with 6G stabilization should not behave like this on a basic takeoff and hover.
I have many years of experience with RC models and I am confident that this was not a pilot error. It was extremely frustrating to see such an expensive model destroyed on its very first flight.
I hope the manufacturer will investigate possible issues with the controller or stabilization system, because other customers could easily experience the same problem.”
