“Really cool, and lots of detail.I'm not a model builder. I bought this to assemble as a gift for a train aficionado who is not mechanically inclined. It took me about 12 hours to assemble. A few tips:Get an X-ACTO #1 Knife, Z Series With Safety Cap and use it to cut the small sections of wood attaching the parts to the board. It's easier to see where to cut if you turn the board over to the back side.Use a pair of Hakko CHP-170 Micro Soft Wire Cutter, 1.5mm Stand-off, Flush Cut, 2.5mm Hardened Carbon Steel Construction, 21-Degree Angled Jaw, 8mm Jaw Length, 16 Gauge Maximum Cutting Capacity to cut the toothpicks flush where required. Some Mega Candles - Unscented Tea Light Candles - Ivory, Set of 50 work well to lubricate the moving parts. Sometimes I rubbed the wax on the wooden parts, sometimes I lit the candle and applied the wax (for the gears, especially) with a toothpick. Make sure you don't put too much or you'll clog up the works and it won't move freely. Of course, you won't need 50 of them.Get some Tweezerman Nail File Collection Pack of Emery Boards, 5 Count to file the burrs off of the wheels and anywhere else you see a remnant of wood left over from separating the parts from the boards.Sometimes you need to tap parts into place. Make sure to support everything, and make sure it's really aligned. Don't force anything.I broke a couple of parts through carelessness, but was able to glue them back together with Gorilla Original Gorilla Glue Minis, 12 g, Brown . Nothing too serious. Just be careful. It won't go very far when fully cranked up, but that's not the point. It's more of something that you look at, knowing that it all works. If I built another one, it would probably only take 6 or 8 hours now that I'm more familiar with how it works.Anyway, I hope he likes it.”
“I love building these kits. This locomotive kit is a lat more complicated than other Ugears kits that I have built, but it goes together well. Amazing fit and high quality laser cutting.”
