InSinkErator BADGER5, Continuous-Feed Garbage Disposal without Cord, Waterborne Gray Enamel, 1/2 HP Reviews

4.1 Rating 590 Reviews
My Badger 1 came with my home and ran for 12 years. This Badger 5 was super easy to swap it with. The drain plug does take a few wacks with a hammer but popped right out. I've never done it before but it only took me about 30 minutes. The drain pipes lined up and I didn't even need to change out the sink part, the new one slid right on since they are the same size. I don't know if its actually quieter than my old one but it runs well so far. Very happy with my purchase.Update: Glad I bought the extra warranty cuz unfortunately this thing only lasted 30 months.. just stopped working 😕

Replaced duplicate model however original installation was wired. Had to remove plug by removing shield, cutting the wires, rewire, use existing wire caps, then electric tape. New unit not a tall, so had to reuse torn plastic shield. Installation took several attempts to get it right. 30 minute installation took several hours. Would have preferred no 3-prong plug design instead. Good product

For the love of god just please use stainless steel for components. This is a great, otherwise durable disposal and if they would only use stainless steel it would last decades rather than 3-5 years. But like clockwork, moisture over that time erodes the parts and starts a slow leak. Such a waste because the motor would last so much longer.

I got this disposal after my first one's motor died. This was a very good disposal until suddenly out of nowhere the motor burned out. Only lasted 2 years and didnt have anything that shouldnt have been in there. Only issue I have is the motor lasting a little more than 2 years until you need another replacement.

After just a few minutes use, disposal started to make a lot of noise. No impediments, installed securely, Can only guess it is the blades knocking againt the bottom. Not satisfied with purchase of this Badger 5 model.

It worked great with no issues the first 2 1/2 years. I’ve had just about 3 years and it started clicking. It sounded like broken glass and of course now it doesn’t work at all. Bummer! Aren’t the supposed to last longer than that? It’s just my son and I not a super big family with lots of use.

Like many of the reviews mention you don't need to replace the in-sink collar. However if replacing an old one with screw on straight pipe you may need to purchase another pipe. They only provide a curved pipe and it is not threaded. Would have been nice if they provided a straight-pipe option and/or retained the screw-on threads.

This is one of the less expensive models. It does work well, is relatively quiet, and installed easily. The drain ring that it hangs from is galvanized, so it's noticeably duller than the stainless steel sink it's installed in. But, if you just need a basic disposal, it's fine. We don't cram a lot of stuff down our disposal because we have a septic system. But, we had one in our previous house for 37 years on a septic system and never had an issue with the septic system. We like the disposal so that the little bits of food from rinsing the dishes before putting them in the dishwasher, and from similar tasks don't then require us to clean out the strainer. Just a quick pulse when done cleaning up the sink and we're all set.
