InSinkErator BADGER5, Continuous-Feed Garbage Disposal without Cord, Waterborne Gray Enamel, 1/2 HP Reviews

4.1 Rating 590 Reviews
4 stars only for the following reasons:Instructions are vague, unit is a little bit on the louder side, you NEED a car jack to install it, and it did not come with the appropriate dishwasher drain hose adapter. How many households DON'T have a dishwasher? This is a very cheap rubber adapter part (sold on plumbingsupplyandmore.) that they should include in every unit package to avoid the hassle of having to order another part and wait an extra day or 2 with an unusable dishwasher.

I purchased this item to replace an identical one that had developed an internal leak. The old one lasted 14 years. I hope the new one lasts a little longer. I decided to buy another one mostly due to the ease of installation, price and availability. We don't use it very much.

I bought this to replace my existing Badger 5. this is the 1/2 HP entry level unit in the product line, and the last one lasted over 5 years for me. about $20 cheaper (including shipping) than the local big box store had them.Good unit for the price point, and suitable for home use if you don't overload it.

It's inexpensive and easy to install. It very loud and sounds horrendous when operating. I really don't see this disposal lasting long. It's definitely a short period, throw away disposal. Something you'd find in a cheap rental or flip house.

Product is OK but the package I received was missing a few of the small parts that should have been included, 1 bolt and 3 screws, not cool ! Luckily I had the old one to pirate parts off of.

This disposal seems to work okay, but it is loud.

Like many of the reviews mention you don't need to replace the in-sink collar. However if replacing an old one with screw on straight pipe you may need to purchase another pipe. They only provide a curved pipe and it is not threaded. Would have been nice if they provided a straight-pipe option and/or retained the screw-on threads.

If you previously had a Badger InSinkErator Garbage Disposal, the new one installs like a breeze. (I'm a 95 lb woman in her 60's so let's not hear that this was hard to do.) The only problem is the drainage set up on some older ones had a threaded attachment and the new one requires a flanged pipe. The box provided only a 90 degree straight down flanged pipe which wouldn't work for me. Still a short trip to the hardware store offered the straight across flanged pipe which was exactly what I needed. Maybe InSinkErator could provide both so novices don't get so confused and have to interrupt their installations. So far, it works great.Perhaps it's worth adding that the older one had what is apparently a common failing with this brand and the brand has known this for at least a decade and yet has failed to improve it. The disposal body cracked right down from the pipe setting and flooded the sink area and floor.
